Prologue

The novella explores the existence of consciousness as a force that transcends universes and dimensions, splintering across them and giving rise to new timelines. At its heart is Nikola, a young man burdened by the unsettling feeling that something is perpetually “off” in his reality. Despite sensing strange occurrences, he struggles to confide in his friends, fearing they will dismiss him as delusional. To him, the world often appears as if cloaked in illusions, hinting at a reality just out of reach.

Among his companions is Neal, a skeptic who refuses to trust Dr. Time—a peculiar and enigmatic figure known for his odd behavior. Neal’s distrust creates friction between them, as Dr. Time seems to be a person of both mystery and importance. On the other hand, Shalini, another close friend of Nikola, believes in him and encourages him to meet Dr. Time, sensing that he holds the key to understanding Nikola’s strange visions.

Then there’s the elusive Professor Arcat—a figure both dead and alive. In one dimension, Arcat has met his end, while in another, he thrives. This paradoxical existence underscores the fluid nature of timelines and dimensions in The Infinite Past. Before his demise in one universe, Professor Arcat safeguards a powerful device, ensuring it stays out of the hands of the sinister Professor Dencaur.

In an alternate reality, Professor Arcat and Dr. Time celebrate a birthday party together, a gathering that is anything but ordinary. Among their guests is the enigmatic Professor Dennon, a man whose intentions are far from noble in this dimension. Despite sensing danger, Arcat decides to share the secret of the device with Dennon, a decision that could unravel realities and alter the fate of multiple dimensions.

As timelines intersect and consciousness flickers between worlds, Nikola’s journey becomes a race to uncover the truth—about his visions, his friends, and the deeper forces at play. Will he be able to piece together the fragments of alternate realities, or will the illusions consume him before he can unlock the secrets of The Infinite Past?
