The Incident
T
The winter morning was brutal, with icy winds cutting through the air as students bundled in their coats hurried into Silver Lake High. Snow blanketed the ground, and the usual hustle and bustle of school life seemed subdued under the heavy gray sky. Inside the classroom, the usual chatter was mixed with complaints about the cold.
Yohann sat quietly at his desk, a skinny kid with glasses that magnified his wide, anxious eyes. He was the kind of student who preferred to stay unnoticed, but Callum and his gang had a different plan for him that day.
“Hey, Yohann, you got the answers for the math homework?” Callum’s voice boomed across the classroom, a sneer plastered on his face.
Yohann looked up, his face paling. “Uh, I—yeah, but—”
“But what? Hand it over, you fucking nerd,” Callum snapped, leaning in closer.
The teacher, Mr. Anderson, entered the room just then, saving Yohann from further humiliation. “Alright, class, settle down. We’ve got a lot to cover today.”
As the lesson dragged on, Yohann could feel Callum’s eyes boring into the back of his head. Recess couldn’t come soon enough.
When the bell finally rang, Yohann rushed outside, hoping to find a quiet spot. But Callum and his friends were already on his tail.
“Hey, shithead, where do you think you’re going?” Callum grabbed Yohann’s arm, pulling him towards the back of the school where a large, icy block had formed from the leaking roof.
“Let me go, Callum. Please,” Yohann begged, his breath visible in the frigid air.
Callum’s laughter was cold and harsh. “You need to chill out, Yohann. Literally.”
With a sudden, brutal shove, Callum pushed Yohann. Yohann’s feet slipped on the icy ground, and he fell backward, hitting the block of ice with a sickening thud. For a moment, everything was silent except for the horrified gasps of the onlookers.
“Fuck,” Callum muttered, his face going pale as he realized what had happened. “We need to get help!”
But it was too late. Yohann lay still, his eyes wide open, staring blankly into the sky.
The next few days were a blur of police, questions, and whispered rumors. Callum tried to put it all behind him, but a sense of dread followed him, a cold grip that tightened around his heart every time he closed his eyes.
Little did Callum know, Yohann wasn’t going to let him forget. Not now, not ever.
