Chapter 1

The deep darkness of the night had become devoid of all sounds. Suddenly the commotion was interrupted by the sound of gunshots. A while after, silent sobs of a little girl were heard in a dark alley. A poor little soul hiding from cruel world in a dark alley was looking at the lifeless face of her father. His eyes still not leaving the sight of her little angel and a smile was widened on his face. The little girl wanted to approach him and hide in her father’s embrace but the fear of getting caught wasn’t allowing her to do so. So much was going on her tiny brain that it just felt unreal.

While he was trying to cope up with her pain, a little hand approached her way. Terrified, she started backing off but to her surprise the owner of the hand called out to her, “Don’t be afraid Angel, its me”. The voice felt so similar that she raised her head to look at him. The tears in her eyes blurred her vision so his face was not properly visible. All she could see was that a little boy, a bit older than her was offering his hand to help her get up. “Devil” she called out in between her cries. He nodded his head then said, “come on out, those bad guys are gone. Come with me I’ll take you to your house”. She slowly got up grabbing his hand and dusted her clothes with her hand. The boy slowly started walking out of the alley holding her hand tightly while the girl was being dragged by his force. Holding her bunny plushie toy, she was taking last glances of her father’s smiling face covered in blood. As they got out of the alley, she saw their car in which her mother was lying lifelessly. She got her hand out of the boy’s grip and ran inside the car towards her mother. The boy also ran behind her. She hugged her mother’s body for the last time. She caressed her face gently and then her eyes felon her mother’s locket that she was wearing. She gently took out the necklace and held it tightly in her hand. The boy again pulled her with him and they started walking in their tiny steps. After fifteen minutes of walking, the reached the mansion where the little girl lived. The guards saw them coming and quickly ran to them for help. They held the girl and checked her thoroughly. One of them spoke, “little miss, are you okay? Why are you here like this?” she started crying out in their embrace. They started freaking out, picked her up and they took her inside with them. She turned back for one last time and that little boy was waving and whispered “goodbye angel”.

She woke up sitting straight and was breathing heavily. Her throat was all dry and sweat was forming on her forehead. Slowly, she realized she was having the same nightmare again that she is having from past 20 years. She combed her fingers through her hair while having a glass of water trying to get a hold of herself. Her eyes fell on the clock and her eyes almost popped out seeing the time was past 8:15. Today was the first day if her job as a P.A. in the top company of her city. It was also her first job so she wanted to make a good first impression but she had to be in her office at 9 o’ clock sharp. Her office was half an hour away from her apartment so technically, she only had 15 mins to get ready. She jumped out of her bed and got into bathroom to get ready. After 20 mins, she was all set to leave. She checked herself in the mirror for one last time, kissed herself good luck, grabbed the keys and ran out of the apartment. Locking the door carefully, she ran towards the elevator but to her surprise, it was out of order. She tried to stay calm and ran towards the stairs in the parking area. She got on her scooty and started her journey. She wasn’t allowing anything to spoil her positive work vibes but that positive attitude was about to end.

As she stopped by a traffic signal, which she just wanted to skip and run, she saw the roads were cleared for a group of black cars and they just drove away without caring about the red signal. She got furious over the thought that she had to wait but somebody else just drove away. She shouted so loud that one of the cars that was in the middle stopped. Seeing that, the other cars stopped as well. She got off her scooty and approached that car, knocked on the back seat window. The window rolled down and she saw a muscular man wearing black shades was sitting in the car. She said in her fury, “excuse me sir but I think you should not wear shade if they are bocking your eyes. Instead, you should use spectacles to help you see better”. He looked at her through the corner of his eye with a straight face and said “the audacity you had to speak to me that way clearly says that you do not love that little life of yours”. The girl got super angry by his tone that she slammed her hand on the car with a great force which was enough to make him face her. She then spoke, “look mister, there are some rules and regulations for everyone to follow. You are not above the law that you can just flee without caring about the traffic signal”. The man smirked and said “I’m not above the law miss, I AM THE LAW, I AM SAMEER KHAN”. With that the cars all left the scene on by one leaving her infuriated by the double standards of society. She also started her scooty angrily and drive towards her office.

She reached office at 9:30 as half hour was wasted with that stupid and arrogant person she encountered earlier. She got inside the office building and asked the receptionist about details. The receptionist asked her name. “HAREEM AHMED” she replied. The receptionist told her to go to 13th floor. She bid her bye and got into the elevator. As she reached up, she saw there was a girl waiting for someone. The moment they had an eye contact, the other girl rushed to Hareem. She grabbed her arm and pulled her with her. Hareem was surprised by this sudden welcome then the girl spoke, “thank God you are here. Boss has asked about you for the fifth time, go meet him quickly”. With that she pushed Hareem in a room and closed the behind. Hareem finally got a hang of herself. She dusted her clothes and her hair and started walking towards the table. The chair was turned the other side that she couldn’t see the face but knew that someone was sitting on it. Then she heard someone say, “Miss Hareem Ahmed, so you aren’t only impudent but also very very late”. The voice was somehow familiar to some extent but then the person turned around. Her mouth was wide open in shock by seeing the figure sitting on the chair. In that moment, she could only shout, “YOU”………..
