Prologue
As we ran, I was happy to hear that there was no one following us. We got into Clarice’s car and drove off. We were able to travel from northern Minnesota, near Duluth, all the way to southern Colorado, near Pagosa Springs. The pack that was there was the Meriweather pack, which the Meyer family ran. I met them a few years ago when I was forced to attend the conferences that all the high-ranking members of the packs had to attend. I was brought specifically to be the punching bag for the Alpha couple and my parents, who were, and still are, the main guards of the Alpha and Luna. I never said anything to anyone about it because I figured that no one would believe what they were doing to me.
I met Alpha Kaspar Meyer and Luna Georgianna Meyer when I slipped out of the room to get some ice. I was barely able to limp down to the ice machine, and while I was filling the bucket up with ice, they came in and saw me. A little girl in baggy clothes with welts all over and dried blood was caked on some spots. I knew that they could smell that it was all mine, but they wouldn’t ask. They had two big, bulky men with them, and I could guess that one was the Beta, and the other was a guard. The Beta and the guard looked a lot alike, sharing the same brown hair and eyes. The Alpha had red hair and blue eyes, and his mate had light brown hair and blue eyes. They looked at me kindly, and I could see the questions in their eyes. “Hello, sweetheart, what is your name?” The Luna got down to my height to try to make me feel a little safer. I knew that I wasn’t supposed to talk to anyone or be caught looking like this around anyone outside of our pack. They would be pissed if I were caught.
Knowing it was rude to ignore a Luna, I answered her question, “Bianka Jensen. I’m not supposed to talk to anyone. I have to go now.” I tried to get past them, but was stopped by the Luna again.
“How old are you, Bianka?”
“Twelve.”
“Where did you get these owies?” Did she just say owies? I’m not five, I’m twelve. How old does she think I am? I thought curiously. There was no way that I was going to tell her anything because the more I opened my mouth, I would get into trouble.
“None of your business. I have to go now.” I tried to get past them again, but was stopped by the Alpha now. I couldn’t help but cower back with the power that radiated off of him. He read through that before he spoke.
“You can come to the Meriweather pack anytime, and I will willingly take you in. We are near Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Just come to the pack house. If you want to come with us now, I will give you sanctuary and keep you safe.” It was tempting, and I wanted to take him up on it, but I couldn’t leave my siblings and be safe alone. I shook my head. Before anything else happened, I felt him coming. Before I could do anything, he was there.
“I see you found her. She isn’t feeling too well and is supposed to be staying in bed. What are you doing out of bed, Bianka?” I knew that to everyone else it sounded like he cared, but I could hear the threat underlying what he was saying. I would be getting it later. He reached forward and picked me up. The ice bucket was still in my hands, and I didn’t want to let it go. But Alpha Finneas grabbed it out of my hands so that he could hold me closer. As I looked over his shoulder at them, I couldn’t keep the dead, empty eyes from glazing over and letting them see the truth. They couldn’t do anything, but I wished that they could. A small part of me wished that they could help me.
That night, I got the beating I’ve never gotten before.
The beatings after that progressively got worse.
I was able to help a woman, Clarice, who was a part of the pack that no one wanted to have anything to do with, and she said that she always leaves her keys in her car, and it is always unlocked. It wasn’t her fault if someone came by and stole her car while she was asleep. I took the hint and used that as a way to get away from this festering pack. There was barely anyone left in this pack who was not an abuser. Everyone, it seemed, in this pack liked to abuse children who were weaker than their bloodline.
My younger twin siblings, Erik and Viktoria, were asleep in the back seat, and Kat was asleep in the passenger’s seat. I was lucky to have found a wad of cash in the glove compartment, which I suspected Clarice had left for us, and was able to get food and gas while we drove to Colorado.
Luckily enough, I was not pulled over by any cops.
I didn’t want to know how much of a ticket that would be for not having a driver’s license. Or even having a permit.
Soon, we crossed pack lines, and I noticed that more wolves were coming to see who was coming onto their lands. I knew that they were mind linking their alpha, which I hoped I had the right pack land, and that offer from three years ago was still there. I really needed a safe space for us to be. When I got to a house, I took it for the pack house. I parked and saw a bunch of warriors come out of the surrounding woods and watch the car with their arms crossed, flexing their muscles as they did that. It was very intimidating.
Getting out of the car, I made my way up to the door. Please, please, please let this be the right place. I reached up and knocked on the door.
The door swung open, and there stood the Alpha from three years ago. He had a hard look on his face, but when he saw me, it softened. “Hi. I don’t know if you remember—”
“I do remember you. You finally came.” It came out at barely a whisper. I was barely able to hear it.
“Yes, um…” I was getting really nervous and began to wipe my palms on my shirt, and then fiddled with my hands. He gave me a small smile, then took me into a hug. I froze, not sure what to do because I had never been hugged by anyone who didn’t want to beat me or my siblings. I soon relaxed, and he let go.
“You are always welcome, Bianka.” He remembered my name! I thought. It made tears come to my eyes. I gave him a nod. Then I remembered my siblings in the car behind me. All the windows were tinted so you couldn’t see in, but you could easily see out.
“I brought my siblings. I hope that is okay?” He patted my head and gave me a nod.
“Welcome to the Meriweather Pack, Bianka.”
Welcome to our new home. I thought. It would be a good new home for us, at least I hoped it would be.

Hello Friend,
I hope you're doing well!
I just finished reading your novel, and I have to say - it’s absolutely amazing. Your writing is so immersive that I found myself visualizing it as I read. I’m a professional commission artist, and while I create all kinds of artwork, my specialization is in comics, manga, and animation.
I truly believe your novel would be a perfect fit for a comic book, and I’d love to bring it to life through art. Don’t worry about pricing - I’ll offer you a special discount because I genuinely want to see your novel in a visual format.
If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out. And if you’d like to check out my artwork, you can view my gallery on Instagram.
