Summary

After death, souls are divided into three destinations based on their earthly lives. The virtuous ascend to Heaven, while the cruel descend to Hell. Yet, there exists a place of mystery and purpose for those who yearn for more, those who are just quite not ready yet to move on. Enter the prestigious university of Custos, where the chosen few undergo a rigorous test to become Custos, once known as Grim Reapers. With Lucca, Faye, Raven, and Aurora as parents, Emalee and Archer grew up as childhood best friends. But when tragedy strikes and Archer tries to save Emalee, their destinies take an unexpected turn. Being a Custos is exciting for Emalee and Archer. Knowing there’s life beyond death, that there’s a way to make a change is everything for them. As best friends, it’s only natural that Emalee wants to be pulsatios, but Archer hides a secret of his own; pulsatios don’t love each other the way he loves her. Disaster strikes once more, and Emalee and Archer find themselves separated and stained with the proof. Transformed by the depths of hell, Archer returns to her side, even now determined to keep her safe. With a looming threat on the horizon and the leaders of the academy taking notice of their unique bond, they must navigate a treacherous path to save each other and the souls they are sworn to protect.
