Chapter 6 The letter

One week later

The last week has been a blur of school. Andras has been trying to talk to me all week, but I’ve been kindly ignoring him, as James instructed. Kerian hasn’t been to school, even though the three days are up, But who knows maybe he will be back today after all it is a Monday. When it's lunch time I see Kerian sitting alone. I walk over to him and sit down.

“Hello, are you glad to be back to school?” I ask, trying to strike up a conversation.

“Sure,” he says, not even bothering to look at me.

“How do you know Andras?” I ask, not hoping to get an answer.

“He and I don’t get along,” he says, plainly.

“I have a feeling that’s not the only reason,” I say.

“And why is that?” Kerian asks, finally looking at me.

“Because ever since I walked in on you in your dormant state, I know about you too.

“You what?” he says, his tone rising.

“I know that you are a vampire, and that I’m a witch that's supposed to change who wins and loses, and that if I become a vampire whoever bites me, I may or may not fall in love with that person,” I say, repeating what I have learned.

“Let me guess you met Don?” he says, sounding annoyed now.

“I met Don first after he tried to stop me from walking into your house, then after he started explaining what I saw, James came and yelled at Don, and then finished explaining to me everything,” I say, simply.

“Ok, so they're both to blame, good to know,” he says, muttering to himself.

“Don’t blame it on them, I’m the one that saw you, it's not like they told me by choice,” I say, protectively.

“Yeah, whatever, so how did you find out where I lived, and are you still on Andras’s side? If so, you can go ahead and move, because you won’t be hearing from me again,” he says, angrily.

“I followed you home from school, and I am not on his side, I’m on your side,” I say, blushing, because man he’s hot.

“Okay, good. Why are you blushing anyway?” he says looking me straight in the eye, which only made me blush even more.

“Shit,” I say, muttering under my breath, so he doesn't hear me.

“Umm, I take it you don’t notice all the girls drooling over you then?” I say, ignoring his question.

“I do, I just don’t pay attention to them, but that doesn't answer my question.

“Well in case you didn’t already know you are very hot,” I say, looking down at my food.

“Well in case you didn’t notice, you're very hot too,” he says, lifting my face, so that we are face to face. I look at him in the eyes, noticing how close we are. We stare at each other for a while, until I break the silence.

“Thanks, no one has ever said I was hot before, especially someone who is hot themself,” I say, blushing even harder.

“Thanks, but it's totally true you are hot,” he says, smiling. I think about leaning in to kiss him, but just as I’m about to, the bell rings signaling that lunch is over.

“By the way, Andras kind of kissed me on the side of my mouth, saying that if I dated you that the little kiss he gave me was basically all I was going to get,” I say, as we are getting up to leave, not knowing why I thought he needed to know that.

“Okay, well you would be missing out on a lot if you didn’t date me,” he says, smiling as he leaves me in the crowd of people trying to get to they’re next class without being late. By the time school was over I was ready to be at home reading my book. I open my locker to get my stuff when I see a note sitting on the top of my books. I decided I would read it when I got home, so I put the note in my pocket and put my phone and books in my backpack. When I got home ten minutes later I went straight to my room to read the note. I opened it and began to read.

Dear Ava, I hope your day went well. I know we haven't been in touch lately and was wondering why you were avoiding me the last week or so. I know I shouldn't have almost kissed you like that, especially since we don’t know each other well, but if that's the reason you’ve been avoiding me, I am sorry. I hope you will start talking to me soon.

Your very sorry friend,

Andras

I reread the last bit laughing at how he signed it; but didn’t know what to think, so I just decided that I would ask Kerian tomorrow about if he was at school. It turned out that he was not. So after being bored at school I headed over to his house. I rang the doorbell twice and waited. Don is the one to answer the door. When he sees it's me he asks,

“Let me guess you want to know if Kerian’s here?” he asks.

“Your guess would be correct,” I say, smiling.

“Well he’s currently down at the beach,” he says, sighing.

“Can I go join him,” I ask.

“Sure,” he says, shutting the door. I walk around the house, and walk down the stairs to the beach. I find Kerian sitting on the pier with his bare feet in the water.

“Hi,” I say, sitting down beside him.

“Hi, what are you doing here?” he asks looking up.

“I got this letter from Andras yesterday and wanted to go over my idea I have,”

“Let me see the letter,” he says.

“Ok,” I say, handing it to him. He reads it silently to himself. Once he’s done he looks me in the eyes, and I can tell he’s angry.

“What's wrong?” I ask.

“Nothing, what is your idea you wanted to tell me?” he asks.

“Ok, so I was thinking that if I pretend to be friends with Andras and pretend to be on his side, then I could maybe get some information about their plans and stuff, so I’d be like a spy,” I say, smiling at him.

“Absolutely not, you will not put yourself in that kind of danger. Our job is to protect you,” he says, seriously.

“You are not my boss you know, I don’t even know you and you're acting like you have this power over me, but you're wrong. I just wanted to tell you what I’m going to do; and I’m going to do it whether you like it or not,” I say, standing up and getting ready to leave.

“I’m sorry you feel that way, but I still highly recommend you listen to me,” he says, and I can tell he means it.

“Well I’m sorry, but I’m going to do it,” I say, as I walk away.
