Chapter 1

There is a weather phenomenon that happens between the years. It’s a type of phenomenon that would capture the eyes of skeptics, supernatural enthusiasts, political parties, and religious zealots. Hearing the various types of people it attracts, you’d think it would be armageddon.

The thing is, however, the event never existed in the first place.

As I take a cigarette from the ash tray and gave it a puff and blow, I looked at the phenomenon around me in my balcony. Flurries of an opaque color fell from the sky gracefully as people gathered around-some in disgust, some in fear, and some in awe.

The date is December 32nd, and I am the only one who remembers this date and knows of its existence.

The date is self-explanatory. It takes place between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The catch is that it exists in oblivion-an unknown gap where whatever happens, did not happen. Whatever was created, was not created. And, whatever existed, did not exist.

Each year during this phenomenon, the sky is a scarlet red rather than a white or blue glow. As you look up, all you can see is a thick, white fog blending into the sky. Descending from it are red flurries and snow, as if it was the color of light blood. However, once they have stopped dancing and landed on the ground, it turns to white. The area is covered in white snow with specks of red transforming and blending to its traditional color. There is no sun, no moon, and no stars; and it is neither cold or hot. No one felt anything.

People below me start talking and chatting while wearing various weather clothing, some taking selfies and recordings-sharing it to social media. Some have panic attacks, thinking the world is about to end; and the zealots using it as ammo for us to repent and accept God for losing our way as they scream heretics. A few, sick and twisted individuals danced and threw balls of white as red specks hung around. Some kids asked questions, some out of curiosity and some out of fear.

However, all that is useless-as stated before, this date and event never existed.

All the social media posts? They do not exist. The chatters and time spent with family on that day? Never happened. Whatever you have seen, was never seen.

You would think staying up for the eve of the holiday, you would remember something like this. However, all of it is just a blip-a blank. Merely, you would sleep or stand in the same place as before, and the whole 24 hours that existed; gone in a blink of an eye.

The clock stroke 12 o’clock midnight away from the December 32nd, and just like that, the date and phenomenon fades from existence-and the New Year rings.
