01. โ€œOh, Hey Daisyโ€

STARING AT THE RAINDROPS AS THEY RACE DOWN THE WINDOW. Dylan sat in the backseat of her dadโ€™s cruiser, on the way to her childhood home in Forks Washington. She was happy to be finally back, she wasnโ€™t a fan of the constant heat in Arizona.

Everything was still the same in Forks. The population hasnโ€™t grown that much since the last time she was here. She missed it. The ocean, the woods, the smell of the rain. All the things she left behind, are now in front of her.

A smile makes its way to her face as she sees the restaurant Bella and she used to go to every day with Charlie. It looked the same, it never changed, frozen in time was just how she liked it. The car stops at a red light, where Dylan moves her focus towards their father, Charlie. He wasnโ€™t an overbearing dad, he gave space to his daughters, but that didnโ€™t mean he wasnโ€™t protective of them.

Being the chief of police, he made sure his daughters were aware of the crimes and incidents. Which made Dylan more cautious of her surroundings, especially the woods.

It wasnโ€™t always like that though, she always ran through it when she was younger, with her childhood best friend Jacob Black. They had always gone through mini adventures when she visited. Swimming in rivers, hanging out with him at his house and out in the woods. When Jacobโ€™s dad, Billy, found out about them venturing into the gloomy forests. He was worried about their safety and lectured them both about the dangers that were lurking around.

Since then Dylan stopped, the fear slowly building up as she avoided the woods behind her house. Always felt a constant chill run through her, every time she saw it. That was years ago, and though it wasnโ€™t as strong as it was before, she still didnโ€™t feel it was safe to walk in.

โ€œYour hairโ€™s longer.โ€ The voice of their dad, strayed Dylan from her thoughts. Looking to see him trying to make small talk to Bella.

โ€œHmm, cut it since the last time I saw you.โ€ She informed him while touching the tips of her curled hair.

โ€œOh,โ€ Charlie sighed, it was silent for a second before glancing at her, โ€œGuess it grew out again.โ€

Dylan chuckled at the awkwardness from both of them while playing with the sleeve of her jacket. โ€œI see that you have gotten taller Dylan.โ€

Charlie looks through the reviewed mirror as he presses the gas. Catching the look, his daughter gave him. โ€œDad not this again, you know Iโ€™m staying at this height for the rest of my life.โ€ She whined, slumping in her seat.

โ€œBut Bella was shorter than you, from what I could remember.โ€ Charlie recalled, thinking from the time he last saw them.

Dylan eyed Bella as she leaned forward, โ€œWell she caught up to me, hey how come youโ€™re in front, even when I called shotgun?โ€ Dylan asked the quiet girl, who shrugged, taking a small glance over her shoulder.

โ€œCause Iโ€™m older.โ€

She frowned at her sisterโ€™s remark, โ€œYeah, by like five minutes, still I called dibs on that seat first.โ€ Dylan sunk back into her seat, watching the familiar road upon them. Bella chuckled, and Charlieโ€™s stern look turned into a slime of a smile.

Pulling up to the memorable house she used to visit every summer. Dylan leaned to the other side of the seat, getting a good look at it. Nothing changed, just the same as before she left. She wondered if her room stayed the same if everything inside was left as it was.

Leaning back and unblocking her seat belt, Dylanโ€™s door is opened by Bella who motioned her head for the younger to get out. While stepping out, Dylan caught sight of the little potted cactus. Bella was holding in her hands. โ€œYou holding onto Ruben with a good grip there Bells.โ€

Frowning, Bella closed the door behind her sister. โ€œYou named my cactus Ruben?โ€ She questioned, looking down at the plant.

โ€œWhoโ€™s Ruben?โ€ Charlie caught the unfamiliar name from his daughter, his protective nature creeping in. Dylan pointed at the said cactus, with Bella shrugging.

He nodded, not fazed at his daughter naming objects as she did so in her younger years. He rested his hands on his hips, looking at the multiple suitcases he took out from the trunk. โ€œWell thatโ€™s everything girls, letโ€™s get this inside.โ€

Once gathering their stuff, the trio headed straight to the front porch. Charlie unlocks the door and Dylanโ€™s nerves are rising with excitement. Charlie and Bella walked first before she headed in. The staircase in view, she found herself back to when she was small, running around the house. Some things changed, from what Dylan could see, taking quick looks around while treading up the steps leading to their rooms.

โ€œIโ€™ve cleared some shelves off in the bathroom.โ€ Charlie informed them as they went straight to Bellaโ€™s room first.

โ€œOh right, one bathroom.โ€ She pointed out, looking back at Dylan. Remembering sheโ€™d always taken the longest in the bathroom.

โ€œWhat? Iโ€™ve gotten better.โ€ Dylan defended herself, setting down some of her bags on the ground.

โ€œItโ€™s a pretty good work lamp. Sales lady picked out the bed stuff. You like- you like purple right?โ€ Charlie questioned with a frown.

โ€œPurpleโ€™s cool, thanks.โ€ Bella reassures him as he looks around the room, one more time.

โ€œOkay, Dylan letโ€™s get you settled in next.โ€ He walks over and helps the younger twin carry her bags into the next room.

The door was wide open, viewing a dresser on the side of the wall by the door. The full-sized bed was next to it, along with the closet across the room. A desk by the large windows, overlooking the woods that are wrestling against the wind.

Her colored walls stayed the same when she was a child. Periwinkle shade, making the covers of her bedspread, stand out.

โ€œI added a fresh coat of paint to the walls, they needed a bit of a freshen-up,โ€ Charlie said, placing her suitcases by the door, and inspecting the recent paint job he did.

A cherry smile made its way to her lips as she took in the room. Noticing that almost everything was the same, except for a few things, that she didnโ€™t mind. โ€œThank you, Dad.โ€ Dylan hugged his side, catching him off guard as he patted her back, with his cheek resting on top of her head.

โ€œIโ€™m glad youโ€™re here, the both of you.โ€ He holds onto the hug for a moment longer, before letting go. โ€œIโ€™ll leave you to it then.โ€ He motions to her belongings, and with that, he disappears down the stairs. Leaving Dylan to happily unpack her belongings into her dresser.

Getting the next suitcase, Dylan looks up to see Bella sitting on her bed deep in thought across the hallway from her. โ€œArenโ€™t you going to unpack?โ€

The older twin peers her eyes from the floor to the blue-eyed girl. โ€œUh yeah, I just needed a second.โ€ She sighed and stood up from her bed. Keeping her eyes on Bella a second longer, making sure she was alright. Dylan continued to fix her room, adding personal touches to it.

A honk of a truck was heard from outside, making Dylan stop at what she was doing. A tap from the door caused her to look back, seeing Bella standing outside of her room, with a thumb pointing behind her. โ€œBilly and Jacob are here.โ€

Her eyes widened in surprise, she turned to face Bella entirely. โ€œIโ€™ll be out there in a second,โ€ Dylan said. Seeing the girl do a short nod and turned to walk downstairs.

Once the close was clear she hastily walked out of her room and into Bellaโ€™s. Standing by the window that has the perfect view of the driveway. She sees her sister and childhood best friend conversing with each other. While their dads are horseplaying out on the road.

Dylan looked at Jacob who changed a lot during the years. His long black hair reached past his shoulders. From where she could tell heโ€™d stood tall in front of Bella. Not seen her childhood best friend and the idea of meeting him for the first time in years. Brought a smile to her face as she walked out of the room and down the stairs.

Dylan opened the front door and trod down the steps. โ€œHey, Jake!โ€ She yelled out, catching his attention. His eyes widened seeing his childhood best friend run up to him.

โ€œOh, Hey Daisy.โ€ Jacob greeted back, stunned by her appearance. She hugged him, circling her arms around his neck. โ€œAnd youโ€™re still calling me thatโ€ Dylan huffed out.

Jacob chuckled, wrapping his arms around her waist. โ€œAnd youโ€™re still short.โ€ He resorted.

Dylan broke the hug and playfully hit him on the shoulder. Making him laugh as their dads came back to the three teens. โ€œHey sweet pea,โ€ Billy greeted, smiling at her.

โ€œBilly, itโ€™s good to see you!โ€ The younger sister bent down and gave him a brief hug.

โ€œSo, what do you girls think?โ€ Charlie laid his hand down on the reddish truck.

Dylan eyed him curiously, standing beside Jacob who looked at her with a smile. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

โ€œOf what?โ€ Bella also questioned, โ€œYour guyโ€™s homecoming present.โ€ He gestured to the truck.

โ€œThis?โ€ Bella questioned further, pointing to it. โ€œJust bought it off Billy here,โ€ Charlie informed the two, making Dylanโ€™s mouth open in shock.

โ€œOh, I love it!โ€ Dylan expressed, sharing an excited look with her twin.

โ€œI rebuilt the engine and everything,โ€ Jacob told them. His smile widened, watching Dylan squeal out in excitement.

โ€œCome on. Oh my gosh!โ€ Bella exclaimed out. โ€œThis is perfect, are you joking me?โ€ She opens the door, hitting Jacob in the process who was walking by.

โ€œSorry,โ€ She apologizes and slides into the driverโ€™s seat. Dylan held back a laugh while following Jacob to the other side.

Jacob opens the door, indicating for her to get in the truck first. โ€œThank you.โ€ Dylan happily said, sitting beside Bella.

โ€œOkay,โ€ Jacob started, closing the door behind him. โ€œListen, you gotta double pump the clutch when you shift, but besides that, you should be good.โ€

Dylan nodded, watching her twin trying to start the truck. โ€œThatโ€™s this one?โ€ Bella asked.

โ€œYeah. Yeah, right thereโ€

โ€œAlrightโ€

The engine roared and Dylan happily did a clap. Bumping her shoulder to the boy beside her. โ€œLook at you, future mechanic.โ€ She comments, making him chuckle.

โ€œDo you want a ride to school or something?โ€ Bella asks. Making the girl beside her perk up at the question.

โ€œI go to school on the reservation.โ€ He answers and the twins nod understandably.

โ€œRight, right. Thatโ€™s too bad it wouldโ€™ve been nice to know one person.โ€ Bella said, her voice sounding down.

The younger twin shook her head, โ€œItโ€™ll be fine Bells. Weโ€™ll at least have each other.โ€ Dylan reminded her, who smiled at the thought.

โ€œYeah, weโ€™ll have each other.โ€
