My first
The world of Elmore was its usual chaotic self, with strange happenings around every corner. From the bizarre antics of Gumball to the ridiculous situations that always seemed to spiral out of control, nothing was ever quite normal. But for Darwin Watterson, life had been fairly peaceful recently, or as peaceful as it could be in the Watterson household.
Darwin was lounging on the couch, reading a comic book, his tail twitching absentmindedly as he flipped through the pages. Gumball was, as usual, causing some kind of mess somewhere, though Darwin didn’t quite have the energy to go and fix it today. For once, he was enjoying the calm before the storm.
That calm didn’t last long.
The house shook with a loud, spine-tingling screech. The walls shuddered. Darwin’s comic book dropped to the floor as he shot upright, wide-eyed. It wasn’t like anything he’d ever heard before—this wasn’t just a normal Elmore disaster.
“Gumball?” he called out, his voice shaking. He was already half-standing, ready to dash toward whatever the problem was.
There was no answer.
Suddenly, the door to the living room slammed open, and in walked… Gumball. Except it wasn’t quite his brother. The Gumball that entered the room had his signature blue fur, but his eyes—those eyes were completely black, voids of nothingness. His body flickered unnaturally, as if glitching between moments of time. The most unsettling part was the sinister smile stretching across his face.
“Darwin…” the creature whispered in Gumball’s voice, though it sounded wrong, like it was being distorted through a broken speaker. “I’ve been waiting for you.”
Darwin felt a chill run down his spine. This wasn’t his brother.
“G-Gumball?” Darwin stammered, his heart pounding in his chest. “What… What happened to you?”
Gumball’s corrupted form didn’t answer. Instead, it moved forward, and with every step, the air around him seemed to grow colder, more suffocating. The very fabric of reality seemed to warp, flickering as if the universe itself was glitching under the weight of something far more dangerous. Darwin’s instincts screamed at him to run, but he couldn’t take his eyes off what was happening to Gumball.
“You can’t run, Darwin,” the corrupted Gumball hissed, his voice now laced with an eerie, distorted static. “I am part of it now. I am… Pibby.”
Pibby. Darwin had heard the name before, but he didn’t understand what it meant. All he knew was that Pibby was some kind of force, an entity that corrupted everything it touched, turning friends, family, and even entire worlds into mindless husks. And now, it had infected his brother.
“No...” Darwin shook his head, his voice trembling. “Gumball... please. Come back!”
But the corrupted version of Gumball just laughed, a dry, hollow sound. The world around them seemed to bend and twist even more, reality itself beginning to break apart as the entity known as Pibby took control. Darwin felt his body growing heavy, the oppressive force of Pibby pushing down on him.
“You can try to save him, but it’s already too late for him, Darwin,” Pibby’s voice echoed, distorting with every syllable. “It’s already too late for all of you.”
The ground beneath Darwin’s feet cracked open, and with a flash of static, the world around him changed.
The streets of Elmore were no longer the familiar ones he knew. Instead, they were a twisted, nightmarish version of themselves. Buildings stood at impossible angles, some flickering in and out of existence, while others were nothing but fragments of broken pixels. The sky above was a swirling mass of dark voids and bright electric streaks, a chaotic storm of corrupted energy.
Darwin looked around, panic rising in his chest. He had to save his brother, but where was Gumball now? And where was the real Gumball, the one he knew and loved?
Suddenly, a familiar voice broke through the chaos.
“Darwin, where are you?”
Darwin whipped around, his heart skipping a beat. There, in the distance, was Gumball—his real brother. The real, uncorrupted Gumball, running toward him.
“Gumball!” Darwin cried, relief flooding his chest. He rushed forward, but the closer he got, the more Gumball seemed to flicker, like a hologram malfunctioning.
“Darwin, don’t come any closer,” Gumball’s voice warned, his figure distorting as static filled the air. “It’s a trap. It’s already too late for me…”
“Don’t say that!” Darwin yelled, reaching out, but before he could make contact, the ground beneath him shattered and he was pulled downward, his body falling into the darkness below.
Darwin woke with a start, gasping for air. His vision blurred, but soon his eyes focused, and he realized he wasn’t in the nightmare world anymore. He was in the Watterson living room again, but something was off. The walls were broken, the furniture shattered, and the room was covered in dark, pulsating energy.
And there, standing in the center of it all, was Gumball—or rather, what was left of him. He had fully succumbed to the Pibby corruption, his body now more glitch than flesh. His form flickered in and out of existence, and his eyes were just empty black voids. The only thing that remained of his old self was the twisted smile, stretched wide across his face.
“Darwin…” The corrupted voice hissed again, now more garbled than before. “Do you know what happens when you try to fight Pibby?”
Darwin stepped back, panic creeping up his spine again. “What are you? What happened to my brother?”
Gumball’s corrupted form laughed, the sound chilling. “You’ll see soon enough. It’s all part of the process.”
With that, the room around Darwin began to dissolve into static, just like the world had before. The reality he knew was breaking apart piece by piece.
“I won’t let you have him!” Darwin shouted, his fists clenched.
But his words fell on deaf ears. The corrupted Gumball—no, Pibby—was beyond saving now. And Darwin knew it. This wasn’t about saving his brother anymore. It was about stopping this force, whatever it was, from consuming everything else.
Without warning, the corrupted Gumball lunged at him, the air around them crackling with energy. Darwin barely had time to react as he ducked and dodged, the corrupted Gumball’s attacks cutting through the air with deadly precision. Darwin had no idea how he was going to fight this, but he wasn’t going to give up.
The two brothers clashed in the ruined living room, the world around them warping with every strike. Darwin managed to land a few hits, but they were futile—Gumball wasn’t Gumball anymore. His attacks were faster, more vicious, his body now a weapon, an instrument of Pibby’s will.
“You think you can fight me?” Gumball’s corrupted form sneered. “Pibby is everywhere. You’re just a glitch in the system.”
Darwin’s heart sank. This wasn’t just about his brother anymore; it was about survival. About stopping this corruption before it spread further, before it consumed the entire world.
“Gumball,” Darwin whispered, struggling to keep his footing as the attacks grew fiercer. “Please… come back. I know you’re still in there.”
But the corrupted Gumball only laughed, the distortion growing louder.
Then, suddenly, a blinding flash of light erupted from the ground, and everything around Darwin exploded in a wave of static. He felt his body tear apart, his consciousness slipping from his grasp.
When Darwin came to, it was… quiet.
No more static. No more distortion. He was standing in an empty void. Everything around him was nothingness, stretching out infinitely. His chest tightened, the oppressive weight of the situation sinking in.
Had he failed? Had he really lost his brother to the corruption of Pibby?
“Darwin...” a voice echoed from the darkness. It wasn’t Gumball’s voice, but it was familiar. It was his own.
He looked around, his heart racing. “Gumball?” he whispered.
But no answer came.
A wave of sorrow washed over him. He had fought so hard, but it wasn’t enough. His brother… his best friend… was gone.
In the distance, he saw something—a flicker of light. A tiny dot, surrounded by the swirling blackness. He reached out for it, but it was so far, so impossibly far away.
And as he moved forward, the light began to dim.
The void swallowed it all. The world… Elmore… Gumball… and Darwin himself.
And in that final moment, it all faded to black.
