In a dark circle
Under the darkness of a sky filled with clouds that hide the stars and the moon, announcing the arrival of an intense crying spell... The cold is severe, and the wind blows fiercely, forcing people to stay in the warmth of their homes. They sip hot chocolate and gather around the fireplace... Beautiful atmospheres created by the cold December nights.
But... December nights do not bring such happy moments to everyone. Sometimes, they are harsh and cold... for those who do not have the warmth of a fireplace... or perhaps... for those who have no one to sit around it with them.
Slow steps... a thin body, swayed by the wind, tilting right and left in a chaotic dance. Clad in loose, pitch-black clothing, they appear as if they have been dipped into a bucket of darkness... Drenched in a heavy coat, with a scarf concealing their face, leaving almost nothing visible. Anyone who sees them might think they are a ghost, a wandering spirit, or perhaps someone defeated by the years of life after decades of struggle... And they would never guess that she is...
A girl who has not yet reached twenty.
Slowly, she turns the rusty door lock, producing a harsh, ear-piercing sound. She enters, shutting the door behind her carelessly without locking it... Who would care about a place this rundown? And even if someone did... they would find nothing of interest. A house that does not know light, and light does not know it. Every corner of it screams that it is the darkest spot on Earth.
Some say homes reflect their owners’ inner worlds... and I believe that is true.
With lazy steps, our mysterious girl navigates through the mess filling the place, tossing her heavy coat and scarf into some corner before throwing her exhausted body onto the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling...
A minute... two... half an hour... two hours... and her body does not move, showing no signs of life.
Time passes like this. She leaves before dawn, heading miles away to her job, sitting at that worn-out desk for long hours of work in exchange for a salary that barely covers half a month. At the end of the day, she drags her feet back to her dark haven, staring at the ceiling with empty eyes—eyes void of anything, any emotion, anything readable...
In silence and stillness, she lies there for hours, doing nothing... until sleep finally claims her, granting her moments of rest... or perhaps not. But at least she wakes up from the nightmare of dreams only to step into the nightmare of reality, repeating the same routine as the day before... and the day before that, too.
She knows no one. She speaks to no one.
When was the last time she talked?
I don’t know...
She is like an invisible entity, unnoticed by anyone... A dot mistakenly drawn on the margins of life, then forgotten.
A life spinning in an endless loop...
A loop made of darkness.
