A Light-Hearted Drug Tale!
"Great structure and pacing. I like how the wizard's obstacles build on each other. Great jokes and the voice is very distinct, almost like it's making fun of the typical fairy tale voice. The description of scenes was a little convoluted at times, I think more prose could be spent on describing the action-heavy parts. I thought the Jungleman could use more development. It seemed to easy that the wizard just happened to know a Jungleman had been by, and that the Jungleman was pissed off so easily. It made the thing feel a little set-uppy. What if the wizard hired the Jungleman to infect the village? What if the villagers had to make amends with him before things could go back to normal? Just an opportunity to add another layer of complexity. Overall, nice and weird and funny. I love Dell."
The Style is the Story
"This is the rarest of all fantasy specimens--a fantasy story that doesn't take itself so bloody seriously! The author has a story to tell, but HOW the story is told is just as important as what happens. In short, the style is the story, and the humorous, anecdotal style of the narrator is what makes this story tick. It immediately puts me in mind of the great novels of Robert Aspirin, or the zanier moments of the early Harry Potter books. The characters and their exchanges are hilarious, as is the plot itself, which races to its conclusion in an effortless sprint. As someone who tries to write humorous tales himself, I'm pretty envious of this tale and extremely impressed. This needs to be part of a novel, or this same sensibility needs more room to grow and define itself. Splendidly done!"
Funny!
"The story was well-written and highly amusing, delivering on the promises made in the summary. I took an immediate liking to the Wizard whose antics seemed all too familiar. There was great enjoyment in watching the plot unfold neatly and reach its timely conclusion. The Wizard's attempts at magic were hilarious and Reginald's statement to call the Jungleman back spoke of just how exasperated he was at the Wizard's lack of skill. The introduction to the Wizard was beautifully done, the best part of the story. We were able to understand the Wizard and his role in society extremely well, thanks to the vivid examples provided. The humour was outstanding and I laughed out loud many times. I wish to read more of this! The grammar and punctuation was not up to the mark. There were many instances in which a word seemed to have been missed, I suggest proof-reading the entire narrative at least once before posting it. All in all, it was a great story and I wish to read more! The Wizard may very well be Inkitt's very own Harry Potter!"
