The Voice in the Good Night Audio

It was late at night when William was already going to bed, he lived relatively far from his family because of his work at the oil company, but that was the day he would go home early, as he had already finished his respective work period.

Until he decides to go to bed and look for his cell phone in search of sending a good night audio message to his wife and children, and so he does, taking the cell phone and recording himself showing only the calendar on the head of the table that revealed that in 18 hours he would be home, and then he sends through the messages “send me that usual good night Love, the one that helps me sleep more peacefully”, and after about 5 minutes he receives a message from his wife Olivia that says “Of course my love, but I would like to hear a good night from you too, if possible”.

Determined to be a loving man to his wife and son, he did the best he could, despite his tiredness and the desire to sleep soon so he could wake up refreshed and be reunited with his family, until Olivia decided to return the good night and sent an audio message saying in a sleepy and affectionate way, “Good night my dear, I think I’ll go…” “No, he’s not listening…” a quick voice of concern could be heard from Olivia. As if she wanted to hide something, or had realized that she had unintentionally caught someone’s attention.

Curiosity soon took over William, who would have noticed what? Could I be being betrayed? Could someone have broken into the house? He knew that their son was just a baby, so there would be no reason to worry, and maybe it was just paranoia in his head caused by tiredness.

But things got a little worse when Olivia decided to delete the audio she had sent to her husband, and he soon wrote, “Honey, I heard something in the background, is everything okay over there? Our son hasn’t moved again, right? If anything happens, don’t mind calling the babysitter to help you, okay?” But for some reason she stopped responding, which filled William with doubts, making him get out of bed and walk around the oil company’s structure in constant anxiety, thinking about the possibilities of how to resolve the situation.

He could simply wait a little longer, call his wife, or if the suspicions increased too much he could simply call the police, but he chose not to do any of that as soon as he noticed a helicopter that would take the penultimate fleet of employees home, he soon decided to join that group and embark with them taking only his cell phone with him.

As he approached the helicopter, he luckily realized that the rest of the group didn’t seem to mind his presence, although they were slightly curious, as if they expected someone else to be there instead of William, but when they realized that he was a higher position in that company they simply gave up on the idea of confronting his presence there, leaving only theories on their minds.

The signal passing through the waters was a little weak, but before takeoff was made William received a message from his wife that said “no my love, everything is fine, I think you just made a mistake, the baby is fine, I am fine, and I will wait for you at home without any problems, come soon so I can make that lasagna that you love so much”, and as soon as he received the message he smiled sincerely looking at the cell phone screen.

About an hour and a half later, William was already in the van that would take him home and he seemed to be a little more anxious this time, many possibilities were going through his head, and it was already about two thirty in the morning, but even so he did not let himself be overcome by tiredness, the motivation of that mystery combined with the desire to see his family motivated him to continue his journey.

Until the driver comments unpretentiously, “You miss home, don’t you, my friend? I imagine it must be a tough routine there,” and William nods, confirming what the driver said, and continues, “Of course, that’s why I took the return ticket right away. I can’t stand sleeping on that bed that feels like concrete, is hard and uncomfortable.” He replies, “That’s great, do you also have a family or just a girlfriend waiting for you at home? You seem like one of those guys who is married and has one of those wives who would do anything for you. I don’t know, I’m just speculating here,” the driver argues, “You hit the nail on the head, actually. I have a wife and a beautiful son, and I’m also close to the nanny who also helps us in difficult times. It’s a good life. I’m grateful for everything I have,” William replies with a smile.

As soon as he finally sees his house, he says goodbye to the driver and walks slowly to his house. It was not a house of humbler people, it was slightly upper middle class, with a huge garage, a beautiful garden at the entrance with a fountain, and several windows that were closed by the curtain that late at night. He then sends a message to his wife saying “open the door dear, because I just arrived”, and immediately the message was displayed and he heard footsteps coming towards the door.

A beautiful woman, but with messy hair and an exhausted expression, greeted William at the entrance to the house. As soon as the two were inside, it was noticed that the interior was somewhat empty, and there were still some furniture that were a little broken and out of place, like a table thrown on the floor and a dishcloth on top of the television that had cracks on its screen.

Olivia soon looks at William in fear, saying “Honey… I’m sorry, I think he woke up”, and before she could say anything else, she was greeted with a slap that made her fall to the ground, a slap that revealed a mark on her leg showing other signs of abuse.

Until a tall woman carrying a small pistol at her waist appeared from a more distant room, and as soon as she appeared William pulled Olivia by the hair, forcing her to stand up and partially kneel, with him saying “so baba, the child behaved well by chance”, and the woman with the gun just said “No, because that whore was a terrible mother, come see the state things are in down here”

And as soon as they went through the door where the armed woman had come from, they saw a set of stairs that seemed to go down a considerable 10 meters below the ground, with the three of them making the complete journey, William behind, Olivia in the middle and the mysterious woman in front, at the end of the path the three found themselves in front of a cell with a crib in the center of it and a considerable amount of blood on the walls.

The mysterious woman opened the cell, and inside it was possible to see a baby with skin that resembled crimson-toned jelly, followed by a distorted child’s cry that sounded more like a kind of roar made by something that was certainly not a human. Olivia then entered the cell and placed one of her breasts for the creature to suckle, revealing several bite marks on one of the breasts, and on the other, a piece of the nipple missing.

William and the woman next to him watched the scene for a while, until one of them said “You brought this into the world, and now, you will have to take care of it for the rest of your life, I don’t care how, you will bring the new race to its rightful place, the throne of the world…”
