"This is definitely something special. As an avid horror fan, I've seen it all...or at least I thought I had. Now, at first, I wasn't sure how the Popcorn Man was going to be played out as scary. Afterall, popcorn is my favorite, salty, generally harmless, go-to snack. But now, I'm starting to eye my Orville Redenbacher bags with suspicion. The story starts with an urban legend of sorts in a small town about a hellish monster known as the Popcorn Man who only feasts on those who dare to partake in popcorn after midnight. Emily and Jake are siblings who dare to defy this age-old myth and dearly suffer the consequences. I wouldn't say this story is exactly a "novel" as it doesn't quite fit the length, but is instead a short story - and a bloody good one. It reminds me of those old creepypasta tales mixed in with Wes Craven's A Nightmare On Elm Street. The imagery is brilliant and fully encapsulates the grotesque and the profane with the appearance of this disgusting creature. I also have a repulsive spot for horrors that have anything to do with being devoured alive or with mutations. This story has both. The author certainly has a way with words on the matter. My only nitpick of constructive criticism is that I do think that some of the imagery was reused in later chapters. Although I do commend the writer on the various different constructs of the sentences referring to "butter", "oil", and "fat." Given the short amount of content, as we're only seeing the juicy parts of the story, it's understandable. I recommend the author look into the website known as The Horror Tree (horrortree.com). They have a bunch of horror publishers looking for short stories for anthologies on that site and this would be one worth submitting to be published. I've had a few of my own stuff published there so I can speak as to their reputation. Anyway, thanks for the deliciously, disgusting story! Happy writing!"
