Chapter 1: Your Average File Clerk

Andrew Solomon Din had grew up in Los Angeles all of his life. He had worked most of his adult years as a file clerk for the FBI Office in Los Angeles downtown. Everything was hustling and bustling since the end of the pandemic. The controversial Stars and Stripes President Marshall Barker had regained power in the latest election and was hoping his Stars and Stripes Party would overtake the Common Good Association in the states like California. More importantly, there was going to be the Governor’s race in the following year of 2026.

“Uh, such a boring day in the office” thought Andrew as he gazed around his cubicle.

Andrew’s office space was quite small and cramped. He had very little room and was forced to take calls even though he wasn’t qualified to. Andrew was somewhat jealous of the FBI agents who were scampering about in the office with their various cases. All of the “excitement” regardless of the case it was. They got to do the dirty work. The managers in the office in particular were keen on keeping Andrew where he was for the past 15 years. Andrew’s main manager was Supervising FBI Agent Martin Levy.

“Ah, Andrew, glad you are ready for work, I want you to go into the file room and retrieve this past case for me” said Agent Martin.

Andrew felt tired of always praising his career, he had always been bugged to stay put where he was even with the Federal restructuring going on under President Barker’s second term. Andrew headed towards the file room and headed towards where the older cases were. Now Andrew didn’t have to head into this area quite often – these were the cases that were pretty old. But then Andrew caught the attention of one particular older case – Billy Loomis! Andrew had heard of the notorious Ghostface, and how he terrorized a community in the mid 90’s. Something was calling to Andrew to look at Billy’s old case file.

“Just want to check to see if you were doing your work” said Agent Martin.

Andrew grumbled softly, but not so much to get himself in trouble. He headed towards the area where the file was located and took it. He said nothing to Agent Martin about Billy Loomis/Ghostface case file.

“Excellent” said Agent Martin.

Andrew had a rocky past in terms of the Common Good Association always maintaining control over Californian politics. He was frustrated with the lack of support from his own Stars and Stripes party. The outgoing Governor of California – Kevin Kennedy was selecting his possible successor; Miss Silvia Jackson who was currently a known Assemblywoman and leader of the Common Good Association. He could see how the Common Good Association would often maintain control through the state unions that even Andrew was apart of.

“Nothing helpful” thought Andrew as he headed back towards his desk.

But there was one person Andrew could feel he could try to reach out to – Ms. Sarah White, Andrew’s estranged crush. Andrew had liked Sarah since his late high school/college years. But Sarah was in a long-term relationship with a French-Canadian Noah Robert. Andrew didn’t display any signs of jealousy and wanted to be cautious about it.

“So, how things are at work with you?” asked Sarah in an email message.

“Fine” replied Andrew, “can’t complain since I’m getting paid still despite the Federal restructuring.”

Andrew didn’t bother to insert his politics with Sarah, feeling it wasn’t wise to do since a past experience during his early college years led her to no longer speak with her.
