The Town of Sequim
The town of Sequim, Washington, nestled quietly between the foothills of the Olympic Mountains and the Salish Sea. It was the perfect place for the Blue Moon pack to blend in with human society. With its foggy mornings, thick forests, and secluded beaches, it offered plenty of places for them to roam freely in their wolf forms without drawing unwanted attention.
The pack had seamlessly integrated into this small, close-knit community over the years. They attended the local high school, worked in town-owned businesses, and participated in town events. No one gave a second thought to the close-knit group of people who seemed to share an unusual bond. The wolves had grown adept at balancing their dual natures, embracing both their human lives and their pack responsibilities.
Part of what made it all possible was the Veil, a mystical mist that shielded their true nature from human eyes. It wasn’t visible, but it worked its magic effortlessly. When a wolf used their abilities or shifted in public, the Veil manipulated the perception of any humans nearby. Instead of seeing claws, glowing eyes, or even a fully transformed wolf, humans would see something else—a blur of movement, a stray dog, or simply nothing out of the ordinary. Even when the wolves transformed into their beastly forms and ran through the woods, the Veil ensured they were perceived as ordinary animals, indistinguishable from the wild wolves that occasionally ventured near town.
This allowed the pack to live openly in Sequim without having to constantly hide who they were. They had human friends, worked side-by-side with them, and even owned several businesses in town. The Alpha owned the most successful construction company in the area, a well-regarded establishment that had built and renovated many of the homes and shops scattered throughout the town. The Beta ran a gym, known for its rigorous training programs that drew clients from all over the region. Even some of the omegas had found their place, working in cafes, bookstores, and, like Rosalie, in the diner where she spent her days.
It wasn’t that the pack sought to deceive the humans; they simply lived their lives within the protective bubble of the Veil. Only a select few humans were privy to the truth. These were trusted friends who had proven themselves over the years and had taken a sacred oath never to reveal what they knew. To do so would have broken the Veil’s enchantment, a risk the pack could not afford. The consequences would be disastrous, not just for the wolves but for the entire town.
The pack’s integration into human society had become second nature, something Rosalie barely thought about on most days. But now, with the shock of discovering the Alpha as her mate, it felt different. She glanced around the familiar streets of Sequim as she walked with Renee, a new unease settling over her. They moved through the town’s cozy sidewalks, passing by humans and wolves alike. To the humans, they were just two girls finishing up their shift at the diner. To the wolves in the know, they were pack members, bound by a world humans could never fully comprehend.
