Chapter 1: Exerpt
Neil stared straight at her, a frosty glare on his face, a stark contrast to the warm, honey colour of his eyes, stoic, seemingly staring into the depths of her soul.
He was upset. The colour of his eyes now mirrored the colour of them when he had transformed, when his emotions and senses were heightened. Like they were now.
She tried to keep eye contact, to not back down from his piercing gaze but she simply couldn't. She couldn't handle it, the betrayal, the shock, the cold rage within those golden orbs of his that she loved so much.
Why did she feel this way? Wasn't he the one who had shunned her? Ignored her? He had been nothing less than cruel to her! So why then, was the guilt eating her up so much?
Perhaps he had deserved to know earlier than now.
Eve was startled out of her thoughts when Neil took a small step forward. She stared up at him with wide, hazel eyes, fighting every muscle in her body and every alarm going off in her head, telling her to run.
To fight, or flee.
Was he going to hurt her?
"You are pregnant...," Neil began and Eve instantly noted the underlying anger and frustration, that he seemed to be trying hard to control, yet was failing tremendously at, in his tone. "...with my child, and you didn't think to tell me? You didn't think I deserved to know, Everest?"
His eyes were passive and unfeeling on her, yet she could feel his anger, his raw passion. It made her feel small and defenseless. Fighting back her tears, she forced herself to look back at Neil, hoping she seemed as intimidating as she intended to be.
Glaring at him fiercely, Eve replied, "I didn't imagine you would want the child, Alpha Neil."
"Are you out of your mind, Everest?," he asked, and Eve noticed the way he clenched and unclenched his hands by his sides. "Why, in bloody hell, would I not want my own child?"
"No, are you out of your mind?," Eve threw his question back at him, her voice, raw with emotion. To her utmost dissatisfaction, she found that the tears she had desperately been trying to hold back had escaped her eyes, falling down slowly and staining her cheeks. "You made yourself clear! You don't want me and I-"
Neil took another step forward and grabbed her by her shoulders, cutting her off. His eyes were hard on her, his jaw clenched. "Who bloody said that I don't want you?"
