Clean writing
"I like the book. There is an easy flow to it. and the plot and the many sub-plots move fast. At times I thought the language could be less explicit. I believe in saying simple things, but saying it slant. The plot is a hook for young adults. Promising, I would say."
Eye Opener
"Cyber Match is a real eye opener to those who are not savvy to the real dangers out there in the Cyber Dating world. I think it should be "required reading" for those before they enter those sites. It is a very well written and interesting read. The dialog is handled very well. This could have been quite a challenge since there is so much going on. Good Job!"
Cyber Match
"A fast moving, well written straight from the shoulder offering that snowballs with new characters as the book progresses. Carrying a major proportion of dialogue the author handles this well without the customary 'he said - she said, ' inclusions which in many books these days are superfluous and unnecessary. A quick and interesting read. which is easy to follow. Poor Amy had more than her share of 'butterflies,' in those early chapters when maybe words such as ' apprehension, nervousness,' or the like would have avoided repetition. The story moved on well. Well done. On a point of interest I strongly feel if I were a New York Times Best Seller filled with Erik's ego and lack of chivalry - financially secure for life with properties in all directions - I would not need to resort to On Line datiing sites to claim the attention of the opposite sex. Good story May Ellen. Thanks for the read. Roy J"
Cyber Spooked!
"Very intriguing from the start, and a realistic portrayal of a young woman playing the field, innocently just trying to find where her heart is and hitting the online dating scene despite having a boyfriend. I felt really bad for her boyfriend, Ken, the author does a great job with depicting how today's over the top busy schedules, the digital age on steroids and living half in a virtual reality stops healthy communication in relationships. who was to know Ken loved her so much? I was confused how Sammy Jo suddenly makes an appearance and what her role was in all this, had to re-read that part. And you seem to switch point-of-view a bit too swiftly throughout. For example, in chapter one, you went from Erik to Amy within a paragraph or two, making the reader think twice whose thoughts we are in. I love the scenic backgrounds, flowers, trees, birds, buildings. but would like actually a few more details about the appetizers Erik and Amy had before their dinner (oysters? calamari?) When Amy goes to the bathroom and asks Erik if she can bring him back something, it makes the reader think something from the bathroom, which I don't think is what you intended. Maybe just add "while I walk through the kitchen--would you like something?" Also when they are at Erik's beach house, maybe add something about each others swimming attire (and body physique they each enjoy). Did she wear a bikini? Tankini? Was he fit with six-pack abs? Overall very good read, I like the short chapters. Be careful of separating POV shifts, use either asterisks or extra line spacing to let reader know we are now switching to the mind of XXXX"
Cyber Match por Mary Ellen Springsteen
"In this book, I could see how careful the writer was to tell the story well. In fact, we must be very careful when making a date with strangers. The plot is well framed and the message was well presented."
I really like the Writing Style
"I found this story posted on Review Me Discussion Group. And the comments pique myself. I already give the rating. I'm just a reader looking for things to read."
Cyber Match
"Mary Ellen spins an interesting set of stories within the pages of Cyber Match. At first I thought I was reading a murder mystery sort of Mary Higgins Clark style, but then the story evolved and Cyber Match plays out almost like a bunch of little novellas laced together by its main characters. I appreciated the twists thrown into the plot, and the descriptive easy flowing writing style. I have a friend who has been scammed in the online dating scene and so I can say Mary Ellen's portrayal of the darker side of that world is pretty accurate. Makes one a little scared at the thought of trying to find romance that way."
Good story about online dating
"This story's relevant today since online dating is such a huge thing right now and there are a lot of people who fake their identities. I liked that this story went into that subject, but I was kind of hoping we would've focused more on Amy since she was pretty important in the first several chapters, but once it was revealed she was killed we moved to other cases. I also felt that if Sammy Jo wasn't abducted, it wouldn't have made much difference to the story. The introduction started in what I assumed was the climax (since sometimes writers start at a pivotal point in the story to hook readers before getting back to the present), but it happened in the halfway point and was over in just a chapter, so I felt it was a bit anti-climatic. It was mentioned briefly later on, but that was it. How did that incident affect Sammy Jo? She appeared to be just fine afterwards which I find odd. Overall, the story was fine, the message is good, I wasn't much of a fan of how the story was split into several more cases, but that's probably just me."
Cyber Match - Review
"The prologue is a bit of a spoiler. I think the story stands as it is without the need for that, particularly since Sammy Jo doesn’t make an appearance until a few chapters in and I am therefore left wondering what on earth she has to do with it all. But then, I am reading this as a one off and I believe that Sammy Jo features in all the other books so other readers may already be familiar with her. It is certainly fast paced – perhaps too fast. I would have preferred it to slow down some. To a large extent the action moves forward through dialogue, which is fine, but to my mind there is just too much dialogue of an inconsequential nature. It needs to be broken up with descriptions of actions taking place within a setting i.e. People moving about as they speak, picking things up, pregnant pauses and such. My mind is in a whirl trying to keep up with the exchange of conversation. The dialogue itself is faultless, apart from the inconsequentialities, and the characterisation is good. I would slightly doubt Amy though. She sounds too put together and intelligent to be two-timing Ken and Erik through a dating agency and I doubt that, given that she agreed to meet Erik at his place on such short acquaintance, she would have been quite so chaste during the encounter. It does begin to sound a bit too clean-cut, squeaky-clean, all-American homespun in places. I think it needs to be a bit grittier. One thing that did slightly grate on me was the frequent descriptions of food – at least three in the first few chapters. I’m not really interested in the menu as in the development of the characters and the progress of the story. One other thing that occurs to me is that the development of the plot seems to have too much of a docu-soap treatment and, with so much dialogue, it does sometimes have the appearance of being a script or screenplay, particularly since you have given it a diaried approach. I know that you are trying to build up the suspense with the first few chapters, but I do think that the novel would be better off starting with Ken’s visit to the police with Amy’s disappearance and then build up the story in flashback thereafter. Incidentally, I did suspect the culprit very early on. Overall, though, a well-written and logically thought-out piece of work that would have benefitted from a different treatment."
Interesting, but could use more work.
"The idea is there but the book feels rushed. The author runs after so many different storylines and the book ends without all of them getting married together. I get that in real life this happens but for the purpose of a novel, I don't think it's the best direction. It takes quite a few chapters for the book to reel you in and then afterwards it gives you whiplash from all the turns it takes. I loved the style of writing though and the details, when provided, are great. I'd love to read more from this author, there's plenty of potential here. "
