Smash
You hit the floor.
Crack
Your bones break.
Gasp
You take a breath in from your broken jaw.
I take the rag and stick it back into your mouth and stand back and watch.
Lies
I see a dark figure out in the hall move.
Silent crying.
Draw a knife and grin.
Gasp
Dragged in another body.
Screams
The fire roars in front of us.
Begging
Insane laughter from the cells.
Heartbeats are faster as they emerge from the darkness.
Fear
Unable to move, only able to watch.
Footsteps
Voices of the masses rise in a panic.
Unsettled
Praying that is bounced off deaf ears.
Heat
They are all theirs now.
Blood
A trail was leading from us to them.
Trembling
We all stand still and watch the last feast.
Regret
Hands sweat and eyes sting from the salt.
Gurgling
Still alive we hear it all and must watch.
Vanity
The chosen stand proudly but all our stomach sour from the sight.
Midnight
The clock rings, and it’s finished.
Choking
They vanish as soon as they appeared.
Sighs
Moon has begun to set for them.
Moreover, for us just another night, another mess to cover up.
More lives are gone, for them the midnight men.
