Prologue : Before I Became a Monster
Once, I prayed.
Beneath sacred stone and hollow stars,
I knelt before the goddess who wore justice like armor —
and offered her my silence,
my devotion,
my body untouched by flame or man.
I did not ask for power.
Only peace.
But the sea came crawling —
not as water, but as a god.
His hands, like tides, knew no mercy.
His mouth, a storm.
And I was the shore.
My screams drowned in marble halls.
The temple walls heard,
but the goddess…
she did not descend to shelter me.
When she came,
she brought no balm.
Only judgment.
“You have defiled my sanctuary,”
she said,
blind to the salt on my skin,
deaf to the silence in my soul.
And so she cursed me.
Hair turned to serpents.
Eyes turned to death.
Face turned to terror.
But the first thing to turn to stone —
was my heart.
They named me monster.
They feared what I became.
Yet none feared what was done to me.
Before I was the Gorgon,
I was a girl.
Before I turned men to stone,
they carved the stone into me.
Now I see with the third eye.
Not to weep.
But to remember.
And to make them remember me.
