Chapter 1

Niverelle couldn’t believe they were here, they had fought trolls and goblins! They managed to get through the games without killing anyone. Niverelle would admit this was so much scarier even then seeing the cut on her father’s neck.. Reina, her partner, ran her thumb across her knuckles. Niverelle had always liked nobody, and she really did not like being the center of attention. Unfortunately, nothing made you the center of attention than walking down the aisle of your own wedding.

A cascade of pastel blue and pink ribbons were braided though her long blonde hair. The elegant suit coat whose hem floated just above the floor. The hems and cuffs show a twisting set of vines and flowers, pastel blue morning glory for her, amaranth pink Lianas, for Reina. They trimming outfitters this way showed they would be joining together the rest of their lives. Today they were both taking the first literal and metaphorical step toward that life.

Reina was glowing, Niverelle could not believe she was going to get to stare into those eyes the rest of her life. When they made eye contact Reina winked at her. Her dark skin shown with light pink face sparkles, you could see where she had fallen down onto her neck. Her lips were painted a complimentary shade of red, Niverelle forgot her nerves for a second.

A chord of music began to play, a song written for the accusation, she still wasn’t sure whose parents insisted on it. They started down the aisle, Niverelle had never seen so many people in one place. The murmur among the guests as they walk by starts to make her panic. She decided to focus on the amazing woman who would be her future wife. Reina’s ensemble for the event had several layers that seem to shift between colors, her blue, Reina’s pink, and deep royal red of the ruling family. She also had long sleeves with large pastel blue morning glory embroidery that had made Niverelle openly cried the first time she saw them. It still baffled her that all of it was done by the Queen herself. They finally made it to where Gregory was waiting for them. The short man had the largest grin on his face that Niverelle had ever seen. They decided to ask the weapons’ master of doing to honor the officiating, he had become close to both girls as they finished their training. He loved to see what new trick Reina could come up with, he was pleased that she always managed to surprise him. As they passed him Atticus could no longer keep it together. Niverelle’s father had been so happy to see this happen… she was just worried that he might dehydrate from the tears, though not that his partner Lynn was doing much better. She gave them both a watery smile as they passed.

Niverelle’s mother had never looked so happy. Tears openly ran down her cheeks, she never thought she would live to see this day. They had gotten much closer after her leaving her husband. She and Niverelle even took time to tour around Reolia during a school vacation. It had been their first trip together after the games. Her mother had always loved the light style of the island and had even been working with others to expand her knowledge and love for magic.

The most impressive sight was the king and queen of Reolia sitting next to each other. Reina’s mother was dabbing at the corner of her eyes while also trying to entertain Reina’s younger brother. Who was confused why his mother was smiling and crying at the same time. The King was doing all he could to stay sitting up straight and hold his composure, he managed it till the two faced each other at the head of the room.

Niverelle and Reina did their vows, and swore to uphold them for the rest of their lives. The new beginning was marked with a kiss.

That was three months ago… a very long three months ago.

Niverelle ran her fingers through her hair, she hated how many people they had to see in one day. She could not understand how Reina could do it. They were almost done with their marriage tour of Reolia. Niverelle did not fully realize how much of a big deal their marriage was going to be. Reina was not even in line for the throne anymore! She had enjoyed seeing the different parts of the island and the people of Reolia were very kind, but Niverelle would admit she was not much of a people person.

“I’m so ready to never speak to anyone else again.” She said as they entered the final hotel room before they head back to the capital. Their final appearance thankfully was short, several towns had festivals and parties to welcome and congratulate them. Niverelle was named after the gurading goddess of the island. She had to learned about her name sake from Reina on her first trip to Reolia. She was named the child of hope, the hope that she could free the survivors and the world from the games. Her mother has always felt an attachment to the light magic that originated from the island.

“Not even your wife?” Reina teased gently in her ear while standing on her tip toes.

“Only, you.” Niverelle leaned her head on her wife’s dark hair and hugged her tightly.

“I’m sure your parents are going to love the idea. You know how they hate spending time with you.” Reina fingers gracefully slid along Niverelle’s arm.

“Speaking of my parents, are we done with all the pomp and circumstance? I love Reolia but we do need to get back to work.” She had not fought something in almost a month. She was going stir crazy.

Reolia was a small island off the coast, and had very few antagonistic groups of monsters. The creatures were more likely to make their opinions known through vandalism than to actually attack people when they strayed too far into their territory. Territory that the government did its best to respect even now. The pair worked as a Knight and Mage team that helped keep the peace on the mainland. They helped when the people and the creatures of the world clashed. Niverelle would admit she missed a good fight

The following afternoon they finally made it back to the capital city. Niverelle flopped dramatically on to their bed with a loud sigh. Reina went to tickle her ribs. Niverelle pinned her to the bed and gave her a kiss than lay on top of her. Both women realized they had fallen sleep when the buzz on Niverelle’s phone woke them up. She sat up and stretched and Reina began playing with her tangled hair. Dad was glowing across the screen.

“That is so funny I was thinking about calling you.”
