Chapter 1 Life Changing News
Nicole Williams, a 19 years old girl woke up one fateful morning, jolly as ever not knowing that her life was about to change forever. She was just awarded a scholarship to study at one of the most prestigious high schools in New York. The Nobel Royal High School, Manhattan. The school for the wealthy and influential and those that matter in the society. An ordinary person could only dream of schooling there. The only way those from the middle class can attend this school was through their scholarship program although the scholarship was only awarded to 4 people every year and luckily for Nicole she was part of those 4 and she even came out as the best in the exam meaning she would also be awarded the cash prize of 10,000 dollars.
Elated she ran downstairs to tell her mom the good news, Mrs Williams was very happy for her daughter. She took Nicole to the market to get a few things she might need and also bought things she would use to make Nicole’s favorite meal for dinner that night. After dinner that night Mrs Williams sat her daughter down and gave her a few pieces of advice. She told Nicole to be careful, study hard and always remember her background and not get entangled with those from wealthy backgrounds so as to not forget herself and how she got there. That night Nicole went to bed with the words her mother said weighing on her mind and she made a mental note to herself to stay clear of any drama and not be involved in any high society scene and definitely not get mixed up in the life of the elites.
The day for her move in came and her mother helped her pack her suit case, when it was time for them to bid farewell Nicole and her mother both had tears in their eyes ever since the death of her father Nicole has been her mother support system and backbone, leaving her mother now was such a big step for Nicole she even began to have second thought about going to Manhattan but her mother told her that this is a big step towards accomplishing all her dreams and she cannot give that away all of because of her and besides she could visit on weekends since it’s not that faraway. Nicole gave her mother a tight hug and after what felt like forever they said their final goodbyes and Nicole was on her way.
On getting to the school , Nicole was left speechless by how massive the school was, the buildings were very tall and a big water fountain sat beautifully at the center of the school. Getting down from the cab she was welcomed by different luxurious cars dropping off the children of the elites. Everything about the school was screaming luxury, from the buildings to the students, even those that worked there. Nicole went to the main office to submit her necessary documents. When she got there she was given the school handbook and told that she would be giving a speech at the orientation ceremony the next day and she should dress appropriately. A senior scholarship student was assigned to show her her room and give her a mini tour of the school. The senior smiled at Nicole and helped her with her luggage. She was shown to the major parts of the school, the sports ground, the garden, the cafeteria ( the cafeteria looked like a high end restaurant and Nicole could tell that the food was going to be delicious). She was immediately drawn to the huge library filled with different kinds of books, Nicole knew she would be spending lots of her free time there. She finally got to her room and was met with another surprise. The room was basically bigger than her entire house back in Queens. Her and her roommate had their own study area. The bathroom was very spacious. The school even provided them with a mini fridge. Victoria Adams, Nicole’s roommate, had already arrived. She was busy unpacking before Nicole came in. They introduced themselves and immediately clicked. Since Victoria was almost done packing she decided to help Nicole unpack while they were unpacking, they also got to know each other better and Nicole found out that Victoria was a scholarship student like her and was from Brooklyn and they were the same age. By the time they were done unpacking it was already late so they went to the cafeteria for dinner. Nicole and Victoria both had Pasta for dinner and they went back to their room to sleep because tomorrow was going to be a long and eventful day.
