Chapter 1: The first Echo

Lily had never been particularly superstitious. She was the kind of person who brushed off odd coincidences and chalked up strange feelings to overactive imagination. But tonight, as she sat alone in her dimly lit apartment, something felt different.

It was nearly midnight when her phone buzzed softly on the table. An unfamiliar notification appeared: a new podcast episode titled “The Last Broadcast.” She hesitated, then tapped play.

A deep, resonant voice filled her headphones, calm yet unsettling: “Welcome to the last broadcast. Tonight, we tell a story that may be more than just fiction.”

Lily rolled her eyes. She had heard about mysterious podcasts before—urban legends spun for thrill-seekers. But something about this voice clawed at her subconscious, a strange chill crawling up her spine.

The narrator’s tone was eerily intimate, as if speaking directly to her: “Lily, you’re not alone. Your fears are known. The story begins with your recent struggles—your doubts, your loneliness.”

Her heart pounded. She paused, looked around her apartment, but saw only shadows. She dismissed the feeling as a trick of her mind and hit play again.

The story unfolded—detailing a protagonist’s despair, her isolation, her fears. But then, suddenly, the story shifted. The narrator mentioned her name, her neighborhood, her recent argument with her sister.

Lily’s breath hitched. How could this be? She had shared nothing personal online or with anyone. Or had she?

A whispering voice then echoed through her headphones, almost inaudible: “You are next.”

She ripped off the headphones, heart racing, eyes wide. The apartment was silent, but the feeling of dread lingered. Was it just a prank? Or was something darker at play?

Lily shook her head, trying to dismiss it. But as she looked at her phone, she saw a new message: “You’ve listened. Now, it’s your turn.”

And in that moment, she realized—this was no ordinary podcast. It had chosen her.
