Twisted Future

Kalavidh, a soft-spoken bank employee in Bangalore, is known for his kindness and calm nature. His closest friend at work is Ravi, a brilliant mind with an insatiable curiosity for the unknown. While Kalavidh leads a quiet life, his heart beats a little faster whenever he's around his wife, Vidya-a sharp, disciplined lawyer with a strong sense of justice. Vidya, currently defending a client named Mohan Kumar in a challenging murder case, has little time for anything outside her work. The victim in the case is Mohan's daughter, Shivani.

One afternoon, Kalavidh and Vidya decide to visit an old Shiva temple on the outskirts of the city. It's peaceful, with the sound of bells and chants echoing through the air. As they walk along the stone path near the sanctum, Kalavidh notices a small blue gem lying on the ground, half-hidden in the dust. He bends down and picks it up. The moment his fingers touch the gem, a sudden chill runs through his spine.

He pauses.

"You okay?" Vidya asks, noticing the way he's staring at his hand.

"Yeah," he says, slipping the gem into his pocket. "Just... felt a little strange. Must be the heat."

Vidya eyes him curiously but says nothing more.

The rest of the day, Kalavidh remains distant. At lunch, he barely speaks. On the drive back, he stares out the window, lost in thought. Vidya notices.

"You sure you're alright?" she asks.

Kalavidh nods. "Just a little tired."

Vidya, too focused on her ongoing case, lets it go.

In her investigation, Vidya grows more suspicious of Varun, Shivani's ex-boyfriend. Although he claims to have been at work during the time of the murder, Vidya isn't convinced. She visits a small café where Shivani and Varun used to meet. The manager, after some hesitation, recalls the couple's rocky relationship.

"They argued often," he says. "That last time... Varun stormed out. He was fuming. Said something like 'I'll make this right.' Then he never came back."

Meanwhile, Kalavidh, still shaken by the strange feeling he gets from the gem, finally shares it with Ravi. Ravi is fascinated by the stone's texture and glow. He agrees to dig deeper into it, sensing there's something more to it than meets the eye.

As days pass, Kalavidh becomes more irritable. His thoughts are consumed by flashes he can't explain-images, voices, shadows of events not yet happened. One evening, as Vidya speaks about her progress in the case, Kalavidh snaps.

"Enough, Vidya! Can we not talk about the case for once?"

She's stunned. "Kalavidh... why are you yelling at me?"

He turns away. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

She watches him, confused. "This isn't like you."

But she brushes it off, thinking it must be stress.

Back at work, Vidya pushes the police to revisit Varun's alibi. They check security camera footage and discover that Varun had indeed left his office during the time of the murder. His colleagues had lied.

Before Vidya can act on the new evidence, news breaks that Varun has been murdered. It shakes her.

That evening, Kalavidh and Vidya sit in silence at home. There's a knock at the door. Detective Deshmukh enters.

"We need to speak with Mr. Kalavidh," he says. "We found surveillance footage-he was seen confronting Varun on the night of the murder."

Vidya's face goes pale. She turns to Kalavidh.

"Is this true?"

Kalavidh looks at her, eyes heavy. "Yes. I killed him."

She steps back. "Why?"

"I can't explain."

Hurt and betrayed, Vidya lowers her voice. "Then I can't help you."

Kalavidh says nothing as the police take him away.

Days later, Ravi storms into Vidya's office. She barely looks up from her desk.

"You need to know the truth," he says, voice tight.

"There's nothing to know," Vidya replies coldly. "He killed someone and hid it from me."

Ravi slams his palm on her desk, startling her. "Damn it, Vidya! Stop acting like you know everything!"

She stiffens, but he doesn't stop.

"That gem Kalavidh found-it's not just a rock! We've been studying it day and night. It's not normal. We named it Kaalamani because it shows you things-visions. And when Kalavidh touched it, the first thing he saw was you. Dead."

Vidya stares at him, stunned.

"He saw Varun-how he killed Shivani. And worse-how he planned to eliminate you next."

She blinks rapidly, her expression starting to crack.

"Kalavidh tried to find another way, Vidya. But every time he considered telling you, the future got worse. He didn't keep quiet out of guilt-he did it out of fear. Fear of losing you."

Vidya listens, falling silent as she lowers her gaze.

"He believed the only way to save you was to stop Varun. He made that choice alone."

A long silence hangs.

Vidya whispers, "He saw me... dead?"

Overwhelmed with guilt, Vidya decides to visit Kalavidh in prison. She sits across from him, silent for a moment.

"I'm sorry," she finally says. "I should've listened. I should've trusted you."

Kalavidh meets her eyes, his voice gentle but firm. "It's not your fault, Vidya. You couldn't have known what I was going through. I was trying to protect you... even if it meant carrying the burden alone."

"You should've told me. Maybe we could've figured something out."

He nods. "I was scared. Every time I tried to speak, the visions changed. You kept dying. I couldn't risk it."

Vidya reaches across the table. "Tell me everything."

Kalavidh reveals that Varun, devastated after Shivani's breakup, was pushed further by Geeta, his close friend. Geeta despised Shivani and fueled Varun's anger. Later, when Vidya got close to the truth, it was Geeta who told Varun to silence her.

"She said you were the last obstacle."

Now determined, Vidya reopens the case. She obtains Varun's phone records and finds damning messages between him and Geeta. They discuss Shivani, hinting at revenge, and later, Vidya.

One text stands out: "She's digging too deep. We can't let her ruin everything."

In court, Vidya presents the evidence. She proves Varun murdered Shivani under Geeta's influence. And that Kalavidh, upon seeing the threat to Vidya's life, acted to protect her.

Kalavidh is cleared of all charges and released.

Outside the prison gates, Vidya waits.

"I'm sorry it took me so long," she says.

Kalavidh smiles faintly. "I'm just glad you're safe."

Ravi joins them quietly.

"It wasn't a curse," Vidya says. "It saved my life."

Kalavidh looks at the gem in Ravi's hand. Its glow has faded.

"Maybe that's all it needed to do."

Vidya takes Kalavidh's hand. "No more secrets."

He nods. "No more."

And together, they walk away-past the shadows, into the light.
