Chapter 1
The leather seats are warm against my thighs, making it feel even more intimate.
Why did I agree to meet with him? The question burns heavy in my throat, stronger than the tequila I drank the night I saw him at the bar.
“Yes?” I say, finally speaking up, but still avoiding his strong eye contact. I fixate on the faint glow from the dashboard.
His text message flashes vividly in my mind: I need to see you right now. The urgency of it makes butterflies flutter anxiously in my stomach, my breathing hitching slightly.
“Look at me,” Professor Austin requests.
I swallow hard, my throat tight, and I slowly look up at him again.
That beard frames his jaw just right, salt and pepper against skin, his blond hair grazing his shoulders.
I wonder if he dyes his hair or if it’s naturally that color.
We’ve already crossed a line, but things are official now. I’m his GRA. Anything else that happens is inappropriate. But regardless of that, I don’t want to leave right now.

He looks like he wants to devour me whole.
Something I know I won’t survive.
“Yes…?” I say, again.
He leans in and gently touches my face. His thumb strokes my cheek, and I can barely breathe.
“I shouldn’t be this close to you. I should be preparing for the fall semester.”
His touch makes me feel warm and tingly. My heart beats fast. My body betrays me as my nipples press against the fabric of my bra. “Well…” I swallow hard. “Why aren’t you?”
