“Well, hello, Mayor Carter,” I say, standing to my feet. I walk over to her and close the door behind her, keeping my hand on it.
She doesn’t look at me, but we’re so close I can feel the warmth radiating off her body. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for for over a year now. Now she can’t run from me. I want her to see her tell me no face-to-face.
“Roman…” she whispers my name, but she still won’t look at me.
“Nowhere to run, huh,” I say, leaning down and whispering against her ear, trapping her body against the door. She shifts slightly, pressing back against me.
“This is highly inappropriate. I’m an elected official.”
My fingers trail down her face and down her neck. Her body jolts under my touch. “What’s inappropriate about us finishing what we started on my balcony?” I ask, grabbing her face to look at me. Her eyes hover to mine, then away again.
“This… isn’t the place for that,” she says, turning her head away from me, attempting to move from underneath me, but I don’t let her move. I feel her breath catch, the faint scent of her floral perfume filling the space between us.
