The Encounter
Tokyo – Restricted Zone, 02:17 AM
The curse doesn’t die screaming.
It falls silent.
Satoru Gojo stops mid-step.
Moments ago, the air had been thick with cursed energy—dense, violent and alive.
Now there is nothing. No residue. No backlash.
Just an absence so complete it makes the space feel… wrong.
“…Huh.”
He tilts his head slightly.
The ruins ahead are untouched by force, yet hollowed out—as if something fundamental had been removed. Even through his blindfold, the distortion is unmistakable.
That’s when he notices her.
She stands among the broken concrete, her posture calm and unmoving.
Long black hair, the ends stained a deep cherry red, swaying faintly in the night air. No visible barrier. No trace of cursed energy radiating from her.
And yet— The space around her feels emptied.
Gojo smiles, reflexively.
“Well,” he says lightly, “this was supposed to be my job.”
She turns to face him. Her eyes meet the blindfold without hesitation. Calculating. Steady. Not impressed.
“You were inefficient,” she replies.
The word lands heavier than expected. Gojo’s smile lingers—but something behind it sharpens.
Interesting.
For the first time in years, the flow of cursed energy around him feels… unsettled. Not blocked. Not resisted.
Drained.
He takes a step closer.
“Careful,” he warns, tone still playful. “Most people regret talking to me like that.”
She doesn’t move.
“Most people,” she says, “are not like me.”
The air tightens.
Something unseen pulls, subtly, persistently—like a vacuum testing the edges of infinity.
Gojo laughs softly. So that’s what she is.
Not a curse.
Not a sorcerer he recognizes.
A problem.
And for the first time in a very long while— Satoru Gojo feels it.
Excitement.
Tokyo – Restricted Zone, 02:17 AM - Sin Kuroyami's POV
The curse doesn’t die screaming.
It collapses into silence.
Sin feels it before she sees the emptiness settle—cursed energy unraveling, losing cohesion, slipping into nothing. No backlash. No residue. Just absence, clean and final.
The way it should be.
She lowers her hand slowly. The ruined street around her is intact, untouched by force, yet hollowed out at its core. The air feels lighter. Wrong, to anyone who relies on excess.
She exhales.
Then—
Something steps into the void she created.
Not quietly.
Not violently.
Present with authority.
The pressure rolls over her senses like a tide that refuses to recede. Dense. Saturated. Alive in a way cursed energy shouldn’t be.
Sin stills.
Moments ago, the space had been empty. Now it’s crowded with power that doesn’t bother to hide itself.
“…Huh.”
The voice is casual. Amused.
She turns towards him.
A man stands several meters away, white hair unmistakable even in the low light. A blindfold covers his eyes, yet she feels his attention lock onto her instantly. Relaxed posture. No barrier raised. No caution.
Confidence, worn carelessly.
She studies him in silence.
The cursed energy around him is overwhelming—thick, violent, constantly reinforcing itself. It leaks into the environment, bending it around him without effort.
Wasteful. Dangerous.
And yet— It resists her. Not fully. But enough to register.
“Well,” he says lightly, “this was supposed to be my job.”
Sin meets his gaze without hesitation. Blindfold or not, she knows he’s watching her closely. Measuring.
“You were inefficient,” she replies.
The shift is immediate.
Not in his stance. Not in his tone.
In the air.
His smile remains, but something beneath it sharpens—focus sliding into place where arrogance had been moments ago.
Interesting.
For the first time since entering the zone, Sin feels resistance tug against her technique. Not blocked. Not countered.
Still drained. But slower.
He steps closer.
The pressure intensifies, testing the space around her, pressing outward like a challenge. Like an assumption.
“Careful,” he says, voice still playful. “Most people regret talking to me like that.”
She doesn’t move.
The cursed energy surrounding him pulls at her instincts, demanding to be dismantled. She keeps it contained, controlled.
“Most people,” she replies calmly, “ are not like me.”
The air tightens.
Her technique responds on reflex—subtle, precise. The ambient energy around him thins, pulled inward like breath drawn into a vacuum. The space between them strains, not breaking, but wavering.
Something unseen resists.
Infinity.
She doesn’t know the name yet, but she feels the concept of it—distance made absolute, maintained through constant excess.
Annoying.
The man laughs softly.
So that’s what he is to her.
Not a curse.
Not a familiar sorcerer.
A problem.
Sin turns away before the moment stretches further. Before curiosity becomes engagement.
As she walks back into the thinning night air, she feels his presence linger—vast, amused, alert.
He won’t forget this.
Neither will she.
Because for the first time in a long while, Sin knows this with certainty:
If he comes closer next time, no one knows for sure what will happen.
Will they destroy each other or the world around them.
