GO BACK TO SLEEP
Graves began stirring after the Moon disappeared.
The Risen weren’t mindless.
They were mentally stuck.
I passed by a family of wandering newly risen.
They tried asking me something using long-forsaken voices.
I kept walking.
Even if I could understand them, company policy stated to ignore them.
Undisturbed graves were the ones the government studied.
They tried to discover how corpses remain lifeless.
The grave I approached wasn’t like the others.
Five pairs of hands sprouted from the ground.
Policy stated we discourage them from rising.
I kicked the hands.
They slinked back into the ground.
“Go back to sleep.”
