Chapter 1: The Mission Begins
The Mission Begins
Sergeant Luke Kavanagh stood at attention in front of the long conference table, his hands clasped firmly behind his back. His team of elite space marines, the Sheppard 19, had been briefed earlier, and now it was time to begin the mission.
“Gentlemen,” said the Colonel, his voice cold and unwavering. “This is a top-secret mission. Intelligence has identified a new weapon being developed by an unknown enemy within their fortified base. We must not allow them to deploy it.”
The Colonel paused, looking each marine in the eye. “Your job is to penetrate the base, disable the weapon, and bring it here for study. We do not know what you will encounter there, so be prepared for the unexpected. Do you understand?”
“Yes, sir,” the marines said in unison.
Sergeant Kavanagh nodded, finally understanding the gravity of the situation. He turned to leading the team and gave them a somber look. “Make sure you’re all kitted up and ready to go. This mission is our chance to make a difference.”
The marines all nodded, their faces serious and determined. Sergeant Kavanagh smiled. He knew they were the best, and he was confident they would succeed.
It was time to go. Sergeant Kavanagh and the Sheppard 19 team marched out of the conference room and onto the battlefield, ready to take on their greatest challenge yet—the unknown enemy, and the powerful weapon they had developed.
