Its okay to have Epilepsy
In a house on the hill lived a girl named Maya,
With a smile like the sun and the soul of a fire.
She runs and she jumps, she’s as fast as can be,
But Maya has something called Epilepsy.
"My brain," she explains with a grin and a wink,
"Is a super-fast computer that helps me to think.
But sometimes the wires get a little too bright,
And they put on a show like a flash of gold light."
"It’s like being a hero with powers so grand,
That sometimes my body won't follow command.
A 'seizure' might happen—I might shake or stare,
But don't be afraid! My doctors are there."
"Like a hero who needs a quick nap in their cave,
I rest for a moment to stay strong and brave.
My friends gathered 'round, they know just what to do,
They keep me quite safe until the 'spark' is all through."
"I might take a pill, a small 'power-up' snack,
To keep all my lightning-fast rhythms on track.
It doesn't stop me from playing out in the sun,
Or dreaming of magic and having some fun!"
"So if you see me shimmy or go a bit still,
Just know I’m okay, and I have a strong will.
With a cape or without, I’m as cool as can be,
I’m a girl with a superpower: Epilepsy!"
