Trapped

unlocking a gate at the end of a dirt road Brantley pushed it open then he got back in his work truck and drove past the gate when his truck is cleared he puts it in park gets back out and closes the gate and locks it back then gets back in his truck puts it in drive then began heading towards his cabin that's by a lake, he used to come here on the weekends to work on it because he bought it as a fixer upper then he got cancer and once he started his treatments it took all of his energy so he couldn't continue working on it so it sat unfinished while he battled his cancer.

finally after 3 years he beat it and now getting back to work and his regular life is harder then he imagined but each day he can feel his strength getting better day by day he just has to take it easy and when he's feeling tired he doesn't push himself now he finally has strength to start working back on his cabin and turn it into his dream get away he had imagined before he got down with cancer, the reason he bought this place in the first place is to get away from his domineering mom his wife that he despises and the every day stress of life and here he can sit out on his dock cast his pole out into the water and sit back and relax and forget everything about the week that just passed.

his married life was going down the drain before the cancer came him and his wife used to be so in love until she started working and began getting closer to one of her male colleagues she was leaving for work earlier and getting home later he seen the sign's and warned her but she didn't take his warnings seriously until he handed her the divorce papers, she went behind his back and got his mom involved knowing good and well that his mom is old fashioned she doesn't believe in divorce she also believes that if a husband passes away before the wife the wife has to live the rest of her life single no matter how young she is but he doesn't believe in none of that.

his mom watched his wife grow up from diapers they grew up playing together his mom and wife's mom are also best friends and they loved the idea of them getting married when they grew up and it happened, they began dating at the last year of middle school then dated through high school and college when they graduated college they got married the first couple of years of marriage was nothing but happiness and love between them but over the years the happiness was getting placed with arguments over her spending a lot time with her male colleague then the love turned to hate.

his cancer diagnoses didn't help at all while he stayed in the hospital after surgery and getting his treatments his wife ran around and did exactly what she wanted she hardly ever stopped to see him let alone help him if he didn't know any better he would think that she had hoped that the cancer killed him but against all odds he beat it, he got proof of his wife's affair and showed them to his mom and it didn't surprise him as much as he thought when his mom took her side claiming 'she is stressed with work and you're cancer once you get better she will change' he has tried to go behind his mother's back for the divorce but somehow she finds out every time and threatens to kill herself or go somewhere to where he can't find her his dad died 10 years ago and she is the only family he has left and she uses that against him.

this is the first weekend he gets to start working back on his cabin he is looking forward to hammering some nails to get rid of this pint up rage he has been holding back all week as he kept going he pushed the gas peddle down speeding up the dirt road, he lied and told his mom that him and a few crew members is going out of state to work because he knew she would come here looking for him when he didn't return home "she keeps tabs on me but her daughter-in-law can do no wrong in her eyes" he thought to himself as his grip on his steering wheel tightens.

on each side of the road is the woods trees everywhere tall green grass and everything else you would think of and at the end of the dirt road is a big open piece of land and beside of it is the lake with a wooden deck that goes out into it, he learned of this place through one of his crew members his family was wanting to sale it and move away Brantley went with the crew member and his family and checked this place out he fell in love with it and bought it.

his grandpa had started his own business which includes lineman tree trimmers and pipe layers anything to do with outside construction his company does it, when his grandpa died it got passed down to his dad and his dad brought in grass cutting jobs and plumbers then when his dad died it got passed down to him he brought in pool repair men and he was working on bringing in something else which was land clearing when he got cancer and that plan had to be put on hold as well.

after clearing the woods he sees the open piece of land then his cabin came into view he couldn't help but smile "my solace place" he said to himself then he looks at the dock and frowns when he sees a figure standing on his dock "great did mom tell her about this place?" he wondered to himself that's one thing he made his mom promise him is not to tell his wife about this place then used the same threats against her that she used on him, he parks his truck got out then began walking towards the dock he had it in mind to make his so called wife leave "this is my place of peace" he snarled to himself as he stomps towards her but the closer he got the more the girls figure and face came into view then he noticed that it wasn't his wife he frowned.

"is she a squatter?" he wondered to himself "this cabin has been empty for awhile did she think no one lived here?" the closer he got the more he noticed about the girl she is tall for a girl but thin and judging by her pony tail she has long brown hair he cleared his throat and the girl turned around looked at him in surprise and that's when he noticed her blue eyes, "this is private property" he said in a stern voice the girl blinks then nods her head "I know" she admitted "Mrs Brighton brought me here" hearing that Brantley is dumbstruck "why would mom bring her here?" then he noticed the fishing pole that's in her hand and internally cried "my pole" she has the line tangled around the bell and everything else it's in a mess.

she chuckled nervously and laid the pole down when she noticed he is looking at the pole "I've never fished before so I thought I would try it" then she looks down at the pole in loss "but it's harder then what I thought it would be" she said in a somber voice, Brantley looks at her blinking his eyes "never fished before did this girl crawl out from under a rock or something?" then he internally shook his head "get back on track" he told himself "why did she bring you here?" he asked then watched as the girls face blushed and she bit the bottom of her lip while her eyes moved from side to side "I have deal with Mrs Brighton" she admitted "deal?" he asked she nods her head "what kind of deal?" he asked she shook her head "I don't think I'm allowed to tell anyone" she admitted.

Brantley is loosing his patience with this young girl especially after finding his pole in the shape it's in "what kind of deal do you have with my" then he stopped and narrowed his eyes "wait mom is up to something because if she wasn't she would have told me about this" he thought to himself then his eyes narrowed again and opened his mouth again but this time he didn't get to say anything "who are you?" she asked "I'm the" he was going to say owner but stopped himself in time "I work here on the weekends starting today" he said the girl looks at him in surprise then points at the cabin "you're staying here all weekend?" he nods his head, it's quite between them then the girl spoke again "Mrs Brighton never told me about this" she mumbled under her breath "her son hired me" he said hearing that her eyes snapped up to him and began to get nervous "could you not tell him you seen me here Mrs Brighton doesn't want anyone to know" hearing that Brantley studies the girls face as she bites her bottom lip from being nervous "what's the deal with my mom and this girl? he wondered to himself.

while both are thinking Brantley smirks at the corner of his mouth "I'll make you a deal" the girls looks at him interested in what he is about to say "I won't tell Mr Brighton if you tell me why you are here" hearing that the girl frowns and looks down he can see the struggle in her mind going on, she sigh's and shakes her head "but I promised Mrs Brighton I wouldn't say anything" he crossed his arms at his chest and raised his brow at her "but you want me to keep a secret from Mr Brighton so you need to tell me the reason why first I think that's a fair trade don't you think?" he is beginning to find this girl interesting now "fine" she huffed "but you can't tell anyone or the deal will be off and I'll be without a home" she admitted causing both of Brantley's brows to raise as his arms drop to his side.
