Chapter 1
Heavy snow fell, silently witnessing Feng Long fleeing for his life. It was his fault for being tempted by the God of War’s elixir. They said the forbidden elixir could resurrect the dead. Feng Long simply wanted to prove it, but who knew his recklessness would incur his father’s wrath.
The Jade Emperor had never been so furious. He had always shown tolerance to his fourth son, but this time Feng Long was shown no mercy.
The execution order had been issued. Although the God of War declared that a lightning lash would suffice for Feng Long, the Jade Emperor remained unmoved; the ruler had his own ideas.
Feng Long rode his sword, passing through countless mountains and valleys, across the vast desert. Enduring the pain, he used his remaining strength to escape the encirclement of the Heavenly Army led by his second brother.
His energy was nearly exhausted by the time the sword he rode reached the westernmost ocean region. This area marked the border between the God Clan and the Demon Clan. To the left, the ocean stretched out, while to the right, a snowy expanse stretched as far as the eye could see.
Falling with a loud thud, Feng Long gasped. His sharp eyes scanned his surroundings. His body was now supported by his trembling divine sword as the heavenly army charged toward the snowfield. They surrounded him from all directions like a mighty wave, ready to crush Feng Long into a stateless mass.
Above his head, various flying magical instruments densely filled the sky. Magical treasure auras intertwined there, pressing down, forming layers of light curtains.
“Feng Long, you’d better surrender.” The Second Prince’s voice echoed through the air. Slowly, the man in silver armor descended from the sky, his boots now treading on the slightly thick snow.
The air was bitterly cold. The gusts of winter wind sounded like the growls of a raging magical beast.
The Second Prince showed no emotion. His long spear emitted a powerful murderous aura. “Little brother, don’t hate me. I was only doing my duty.”
Feng Long laughed so hard his lungs ached. He spat out a mouthful of blood. His sharp, peach-like eyes stared at his second brother with a complex mix of emotions. Since childhood, the two had never gotten along. The free-spirited Feng Long couldn’t stand up to his rule-abiding second brother. They were like water and fire, never able to get along.
This pursuit and siege had been going on for several days. To be honest, even though Feng Long was powerful, he couldn’t fight against a hundred thousand heavenly troops at once.
The battle raged until the sky and earth lost their original colors. The sky was so dark, the sun and moon had not been visible for days.
Feng Long had nearly lost all his blood and energy. Now he was beginning to lose all sense of pain, his body only shivering, cold. His natal flying sword swayed, tilting more and more until it finally couldn’t support its weight. Feng Long’s body fell like a bird with broken wings, collapsing onto the snow.
Everything seemed to spin around him, spinning until he felt dizzy and his vision began to blur. Looking up, he saw his second brother standing there, staring at him with an unreadable expression.
Feng Long laughed, his breath growing ragged. He was certain he was going to die today, so what was the harm in laughing?
Coughing violently, Feng Long wiped the blood from his lips. His eyes stared up at the dark sky, which seemed to be mocking him.
The wind was blowing hard, the snow was falling very heavily.
Feng Long knew he wouldn’t live long. This was his last. Breathing heavily, his breathing became increasingly labored. In his final moments, he asked, “Second Brother, did you ever love me?”
The Second Prince didn’t say anything, but the man’s mouth moved soundlessly while both his hands swung, raising his spear high before striking Feng Long’s heart in one thrust.
Ah, Feng Long must have misread his second brother’s lips. Because it seemed impossible for the Second Prince to say: always.
Yeah, that’s weird, thought Feng Long before his consciousness was forcibly ripped from his body.
The sounds around him faded. Even the rustling wind and snow faded. Feng Long knew he was dead, his soul shattered, and his eyelids felt too heavy to open.
The cold once again enveloped him. Feng Long groaned, feeling pain all over his body while his divine energy was gone. Strange, he thought. Is this really how the souls of the dead feel?
“You deserve this punishment, you damn thief!” A man’s voice rang out from the south. Feng Long frowned; the voice didn’t sound like his second brother’s. Strange, he thought again.
His body felt pain again as a strong kick hit his heart.
“Little sister, don’t cry. It’s not your fault for telling the teacher. Liwei is useless, he deserves this punishment!” A young man tried to comfort his beautiful junior student. The young woman was still crying, her eyelashes wet with tears.
“It’s my fault for not being able to stop the Demon Sect from stealing the Divine Sword. Father should punish me too,” Wei Wei spoke in a melodious voice. She was the number one beauty in the Sword Sect. Although she looked gloomy, deep down, she hoped Liwei was truly dead. However, even if that damned man lived, Liwei wouldn’t dare denounce him because she liked him.
“Don’t blame yourself. He deserved it!” The first senior spoke in disgust as he glared at Liwei. With a gesture, he ordered the other students to drag Liwei away.
Liwei’s body was dragged and thrown into a pig pen. The stench was overwhelming, but Liwei was too weak to even get up, and even opening her eyes was difficult.
Feng Long felt short of breath and his world was spinning. When he managed to open his eyelids, the sky was already pitch black.
“Hey, he’s not dead,” a young man’s voice rang out from the stable door. A hint of disgust laced his voice, the two young men entered, gently kicking Feng Long’s leg, and then mercilessly stomping on it. “Because of your stupidity, the Demon Sect was able to steal our sect’s treasure. You useless bastard!”
Feng Long struggled to process what he’d just heard. The words he’d heard left him confused. After the room fell silent again, Feng Long tried to get up. He frowned, trying to figure out where he was.
The first thing he did was check his meridians. Uh-huh, what a waste! This possessed young man’s spiritual roots were indeed very weak. Feng Long then placed a palm on his left chest, his smile slowly widening. Ah, he was fortunate that his divine marrow hadn’t been destroyed. With some hard training, his spiritual energy would return to normal. Not too bad, he thought.
Looking around, Feng Long frowned, realizing where he was. His anger immediately boiled over, how could he be in a pigsty?
Taking a deep breath, Feng Long sighed loudly. Now all he had to do was focus on healing himself and trying to unearth the original owner’s memories.
At least I’m still alive, he thought before going back to sleep.
