Prologue
“We think she may be a new recruit. I mean, look at her! We got into a full-fledged fight with two Hawks and threw up a shield while doing it!”, he practically yelled. The fight earlier had worn him out but the thought of a new recruit, a powerful new recruit, was enough to put a skip in his step.
“Your point exactly? So she saw the fight, one of the Hawks probably didn’t shield right. Why did you bring her here? You know as well as anyone, how dangerous is was to bring her here! To keep her here with us is still putting the Raven’s in jeopardy! Did you bother to look into her records or even her family history to see if she is like us?”, this man was truly angry. Did this probie even think of the distress and danger he would put them all in because of this girl?
“Yes, why wouldn’t I? I already called in the Old Ones while I was at it. They said to hold her here till they came. Look at her she even has the eyes! What more do you need?”, he asked, flabbergasted. He looked over at the five year old again. She truly was a startling sight. Blue-black hair cascading down her back in little ringlets, a peaceful look on her tan heart-shaped face, and her eyes! Her eyes flicked up to meet his and stare back in silent question. One silver and the other gold, the effect was breathtaking.
“Fine, we will train her, but! If she turns out to be dud, then I will have you stripped of rank. Call the top students in class that are close to her age. They will be in charge of her wellbeing.”, he said irritated. It was hard to say she wasn’t like them. As the children were being called down, he studied her. She would be a sight to behold in a couple of years. If she was to be trained and manage to survive, the results would be no less shocking.
There were three children. The first was a strong boy for a child of only six years. His eyes were the strangest, for they never stayed the same colors. The second was a young girl. She was neither short nor tall and had the sweetest voice when she spoke. The last was a little boy with ruffled hair and a long scar starting at his elbow and ending at his wrist.
“Syn, Shanna, Damin. Meet your new trainee. You are to help her get caught up in classes and make sure she isn’t killed.” All eyes turned towards the little girl. Silver and gold eyes looked at each person in turn. Slowly getting up she did a little bow and in a voice that sounded like morning roses opening to dawns first rays of light, said,”Pleased to meet you. My name is Storm Mavis Santiago.”
