Episode 80 - The Abandoned City - Raining at 1:00 PM...
The Aether 690A...
Vincent jumps to the building roof with Cinder and lays her inside the ship. She tells Tokou to trigger some buttons, and automatic medical drones are deployed to treat her injuries. Tokou explains to Vincent what happened.
Vincent: WHAT?! THE BOZO WAS HERE TOO?!
Tokou: Yeah... He looked kind of weak, but I guess it’s only an illusion to forget that he, too, is a godly being.
Meanwhile in Lilac Town...
Anthony finishes his lunch at an outside food court and runs through the rain, soaking wet. He arrives at the convenience store where he works. The flowery person working at the cashier freaks out.
???: Gosh! Anthony, you are all drenched! Enter from the staff room.
Anthony: Sorry, Leith. Uh- I mean, Boss!
Leith: Geez...
LEITH ART
He does what is told and dries up with a towel and changes into his working attire. He clocks in his swipe card and then enters the store area.
Leith: I just petal cleaned the floors for your information. I know your god powers are dumb, but can’t you at least afford an umbrella?
Anthony: I’m sorry, okay. I’ll try not to screw up next time. But uh... if you want me to buy an umbrella, maybe you can increase my salary?
Leith: Aren’t you supposed to be rich by now?! You were hired to protect Eterneliya City in exchange for the residents. And it seems like you didn’t have a choice because you ascended as a Free Roamer and poofed here like a special sprout. So the authorities would have kicked you out if you didn’t choose to become a protector.
Anthony: Don’t remind me of what I already know. Besides, I don’t even get paid that often. I was just paid for helping clear all the evil ghosts that swarmed the whole town a few days ago, and contributed to fixing the town. Progress is looking good so far, hehe.
Leith: Where’s the umbrella then if you got paid?
Anthony: Uh...
Anthony: I like to upgrade my house’s infrastructure so it doesn’t break easily from those ghosts the other day.
After the upgrade.
Anthony: You guys did a good job! Awesome.
He tapped a wall, and it collapsed.
Anthony: Oh... I accidentally put godly strength on my hand.
Worker: That will be 1 Million Aquired Points.
Leith: You must be one of the dumbest godly beings out there. I’m starting to understand Free Roamers are nothing but annoying pests multiplying in the cosmos.
Anthony talks while restocking, and Leith transacts with a few customers.
Anthony: Hey, at least I’m not some insane maniac who thinks they’re the most divine being in existence when even their reach has no contact withunified Main Existence civilizations.
Leith: It’s the reason the authorities gave you that chance to stay, idiot.*sigh*The day feels longer when nothing interesting happens, even outer space sucks.
A group of tentacled robbers with spikes appears.
Robbers: Everyone, put all armed weapons away! This is a robbery.
Leith: Anthony -_-.
5 seconds later... All the robbers have been instantly killed and are dumped in the garbage pile. The garbage personnel arrive and look at the convenience store. Seeing Anthony, he doesn’t question and takes it to the garbage craft like “another robbery day”.
Anthony: Well, that was interesting.
Leith: Ugh, even though that happens extremely rarely, it’s boring. Even when you’re not around, the locals and I can easily take out those robbers.
Anthony: Wait, you can?
Leith: Gosh, you probably didn’t even listen to Supervisor Lawtrid about this world’s history when President Usuzami encouraged civilians to be prepared and fight against danger. Thus, we are sometimes referred to as“Civil Fighters”.
Anthony: Oh... I think Lawtrid told me something about that.
Leith: -_- you’re getting less pay this week.
Anthony: Noooo! Please, Boss, I’m begging you! I’ll start listening to whatever bullcrap I’m being taught.
Leith: I was kidding... But still. Managing this store is exhausting. Not many want to work here. And our few co-workers are at home, recovering from the ghost attacks.
Anthony focuses on moving heavy boxes without using his godly strength. Leith finishes serving the customers. Soon, the store becomes empty.
Leith: I always thought this job sucks... But I need to pay bills... So I have no choice. Unlike you... Even though you also didn’t have a choice, well, it opened multiple opportunities. With your powers, you can join the army, earn enough to travel around space, hang out with strong people, and even become criminals just to steal the things you want or need, like robbing galactic space banks for Aquired Points!... But you decided to work on a low-paying job at a local convenience store.
Anthony: What?! I used to be living a simple mortal life before ending it because of depression and shit. And how lucky I turned into this instead of disappearing completely. But, I still wanted a simple life so...
Leith: It must have been tragic with whatever you were dealing with in the past. Being something that can dream so big... yet struggling because of pathetic limitations.
Anthony: Hey, at least you can do flower spells and stuff. Meanwhile, I couldn’t stand up for an entire day back then. Following the next, I need like a week of rest before I can do something like that again! Life sucks from where I came from. After seeing Eterneliya City, my race is just pathetic and fragile, just like that banana kid who helped us liberate Lilac Town. But, I guess he gets to enjoy an adventurous life without suffering so much.
Leith: Probably? I’m sure you just haven’t gotten to know those XD-Fying Guys better, yet. In this reality, however, no one is immune to suffering. Space is already dangerous as it is. And if that doesn’t concern you, then it’s the life around you. Otherwise, it’s yourself.
Anthony: Okay, you lost me. From what I understand, life is shit.... But we gotta keep pushing for a lesser shitty life.
Leigtgh: Hah, I guess we both suck then... In a way...
Anthony: Yeah... Sure...
Leith: Anthony?
Anthony: Yeah?
Leith: Don’t tell our co-workers about this conversation that came out of nowhere, or I’ll cut your salary.
Anthony: You got it, Leith! Uh- I mean Boss!
Leith: Good. I’m watching you >:(
Moments later, a sudden but fast earthquake occurred, and bright lights flashed from the capital. It slowly stops raining.
Anthony: An earthquake?!
When it ended, some people entered the store.
People: Hey, turn on the news! I think it’s on TV!
Leith gets the remote and turns it on to watch the news on a television.
News Reporter: The combined foreign anomaly had taken serious blows from the protectors Vincentalot and May, along with other authority leaders. The Orange Matriarch Facility had just confirmed that the anomaly is down! I repeat, the anomaly is down!
Anthony: Those dudes are rocking it out!
Leith: Hey, Anthony, we still have more supplies to arrange!
Anthony: I’m on it.
END.
