Summary

Montecito, California. Autumn 2015 Jamie Montgomery is the golden boy of high school football: a prodigy quarterback with a multimillion-dollar future already mapped out by scouts and his family. His life is a strictly policed brand with no room for error—or the truth. Then came Louis Moreau, the exchange student from France, who upends Jamie’s universe. A dangerous, irreversible fire sparks between them in the dark until the stakes turn lethal. In the hyper-masculine, corporate world of football, falling for another boy threatens more than just Jamie's career—it could burn his entire future to the ground.  What would you do if you fell in love with someone you were forbidden to have? Would you break all the rules for love when everything is at stake?

Authors note

What if I Like You Like You was one of the first stories I published on Inkitt.

Like all my other stories, it is a first draft. Over the past few years, I have written, rewritten, and improved significantly. I still post my first drafts and periodically edit them long after publication, but I kept coming back to this particular story. I love it, and, as the positive reviews indicate, my readers do too.

However, I’m not entirely happy with it. It is a short story with 19 chapters that deserves some love and attention, in my opinion. So, I started editing it. I will leave the original version on Inkitt, too.

This version is written in the first person and present tense, but the stronger ( and maybe better) version will also be available soon. This new draft is written in the third person and past tense.

I’ve learned that I enjoy writing this way much more because it allows me to show my characters’ emotions in more detail than the first-person POV does. I hope you give this alternative version a chance as well. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and opinions on it!

You don’t have to read the first draft to enjoy this one. Dive in and enjoy the roller coaster ride of Jamie and Louis! Thank you all for your ongoing support and for all the love you have given my books!

I've read chapter 1 of the first version, I'm curious how it will be in 3rd person POV!

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
