Chapter 1
Utada lay in her bed, her eyes locked on the ceiling recalling a nightmare. In it, a room covered in flames; bodies drenched in blood whose faces were blurred. A little girl holding dragger dripping with blood, had a dark lavender aurora around it repeatedly saying, ‘Your Fault’.
Utada took a deep breath while closing her eyes trying her best to figure out why she has been continuously getting this nightmare as well as others. She wondered if it may have been memories from her forgotten life. Yet when she told Nani about them, Nani kept stating that it was all in her head. Utada slowly exhaled, opening her eyes, lifting her right hand. For a moment a circular light rose silver rune appeared. A spell that Nani placed on her as a child. It was to help her stabilize her power as well keep her oracle abilities hidden. She lowered her hand before sitting up to look out the window. Yet there was always some feeling there may be more to it.
“One day…” She softly spoke to herself, giving a small smile. She turned around to see Nani standing at her doorway. Nani, a small elderly woman with very pale raspberry color haired in a very tight neat bun. She was no taller than four eight and her skin was an odd marble pale color. She held onto a beautifully carved cane that handle was shaped like a rose. Her chestnut brown eyes quickly locked onto Utada’s.
“Here to stop me?” Utada questioned her as she stood up. Nani sighed, shaking her head as she moved over to her.
“You are seventeen, not much I can do. Just know all I have done is to keep you safe. Since you are hell bent on going….”
“At least be sure to keep your ability hidden” Utada quickly interrupted. “Yea, I know. I need to also stay calm when fighting. Keep everything in control, so on so on.” She continued rolling her eyes. Nani gave Utada a dark glare, most likely not thrilled at the attitude she was currently receiving from her.
“I’ll be fine, the only thing that I am having trouble with lately are those nightmares. I have been having the one, repeatedly, while still having different ones with them all seeming so real.”
“They are just nightmares stop dwelling on them.” Nani quickly said placing a hand on Utadas shoulder. “Now hurry, I have already sent your belongings over to Srinu. I am sure your friends will be here soon.”
Utada stared at Nani for a moment, wondering if she should push on about the nightmares.A sinking feeling that Nani was really hiding something. Yet now was not the time. If she wasn’t ready before the others arrived, they were going to blame her if all the spots end up taken.
“Thanks for trusting me.” Utada said.
She gave Nani a quick hug. She leaped out of bed running to the restroom. Moving quickly, it only took her an hour and a half to be dressed and ready. She was now in her room going through everything just to be sure nothing important was left behind. While going through the remaining belongings she heard a hard thud at her window and quickly turned to it. Looking out only to see her friends Riya, Juno, and Fiona below. Opening the window, before she was able to say anything a rock was sent her way nearly hitting her in the head.
“If we miss the chance to get a spot, I am blaming you!” Fiona shouted while looking for another rock to throw. Utada rolled her eyes climbing into her window before completing stepping out. When she did a teal transparent step appear, she walked downward to her friends as if she was on stairs. Juno smiled and gave her a thumbs up, he was about to speak till Fiona wrapped her arms around his left arm, pulling him close to her.
“She did good yes, now let’s go!” She snapped walking away, dragging Juno along with her. It was funny how he allowed her to drag him around the way she does. Though Fiona would not outright admit she worries another girl would catch his eye. Juno was an attractive guy. He had short black hair; skin was a faded like brown and he was five six or so while Fiona was five three. Utada other friend Riya moved her dirty blonde hair away from her hazel eyes chuckling as she nudged her playfully.
“When do you think Fiona will just admit she likes him.” She whispered. Utada smirked as the two began to follow behind their friends.
“I give it a month after getting into the University. Girls are probably going to be all over him and that is going to break her.” Utada whispered back. Riya took a moment of thought then nodded in agreement.
“That is even if we get in. Oddly enough, enrollment started a lot earlier.”
“We just have to hope enough people were rejected.” Fiona sighed.
They reached a tall wooden arch that had moss growing up on the right side with yellow and lavender flowers. The arch was beautifully carved to look like two fairies holding up a rose. Utada took in all the details; she had always admired the artistry of the arch wondering who carved it. It wasn’t in till their old teacher Fark approached from the other side. He was a tall skinny man with hair on the sides a shade of gray and gold but bald completely in the middle. His hand slightly extended from his chest with a light glowing screen facing him. He rolled his eyes at them dully before swiping at the screen a few times. He moved to the left side of the ark swiping a few more times on the screen.
“Seems there are still spots open for you all to apply.” He paused as he began to type into the screen continuing “I have just sent the information to them as well as informed your care takers to send over all your needed valuables to the university. Shall you be turned away or you fail your entry exam. All your belongings will be returned immediately. Is that understood?”. They all nodded when they did Fark tap on the screen twice with it vanishing. The ark then began to let out a low beautiful hum before a portal emerged within it.
“Once you pass through go to the area of the subject you want to be your main course first. They will tell you where to continue from there.”
Everyone nodded once more than one by one walked through the portal. Yet when Utada went to Fark had stopped her.
“Nani asked me to remind that what is hidden is best to remain hidden. Also, that if any trouble is to occur, she will bring you home.”
“I like to see her try.” Utada couldn’t help but hiss. She was highly annoyed since Nani had the opportunity to speak to her more regarding the matter of her leave.
Fark gave Utada a sharp look of disagreement as if he knew what was going on. Yet he stepped out of her way allowing her to pass through. Utada took a deep breath as she stepped into the ark. A burst of light blinded her as a gust of wind whipped around her. She felt as if she was going to fall but felt someone catch her. As her version finally came back, she saw she was in the arms of Kitsu, Junos older brother. She felt her cheeks burn as she quickly got her footing to stand up straight.
His chestnut eyes stayed locked on her as she fumbled with her jacket making sure everything was in place hoping she didn’t look like a mess. He chuckled as he watched her only causing her cheeks to redden more. It had been two years since she had seen him, he would occasionally send her messages about the school as well on how he missed hanging out with her and the others. He looked a lot more muscular than remembered, his black hair grew out a little longer as well.
“It’s nice to see you again Utada.”
“Nice to see you to” Utada spoke shyly. It looked as if Kitsu was about to say something else till he was called by someone. Utada waved at him as he ran off a small smile on her face. She then finally looked around at where she was. She was now in a large field at least a few miles long in both length and width. There were beautiful areas with a multitude of flowers, bushes cut in the shape of dragons, fairies as well as other races. Beautifully colored canopies with glowing banners that had each course type spread out across the field.
As well as arches much like the one Utada came through, that still had people appearing from them. Students and teachers in their golden pearl white uniforms aiding everyone who was entering the area. The sky a brilliant blue, clear with a perfect breeze. Utada then noticed that the field itself was surrounded by a forest. She looked around for her friends only to bump into someone causing her to fall over.
“Oh, I am sorry!” A girl quickly spoke. She had long rose gold hair tied up in two tails with a brown chi bear pin. Her eyes were a perfect rainbow blend; she wore golden bracelets and a golden collar necklace. Her dress looked like it belonged to a doll, it was simply adorable. She was the first Baron Utada has ever seen. The girl quickly helped her up, then even dusted Utada off.
“It’s fine I should have been watching where I was going.”
“You really should have.” A guy said while he approached the two. His hair spiked a dark blood red and eyes glowing a dull bronze gold color. He had a very heavy accent, but Utada couldn’t put her finger on. She also noticed leaning over his right shoulder sleeping was a child that had to at least be ten. His hair a bright gold, Standing beside the two of them a very beautiful man. His hair a snow white, long and in a neat ponytail; eyes glowing a soft smoky gray white, a small hint of blue.
“No need to be rude Lance it was an honest mistake.” He spoke calmly before turning his attention to Utada who couldn’t help but be captivated by how beautifully he was. “You’re not hurt, are you?”
“I… nope.” Was all she was able to say. Lance rolled his eyes before walking away; the other guy bowed politely before following him.
“Sorry again.” The baren girl spoke following her friends. Utada shook off the shock of meeting a baron as well as two dragons for the first time. She then continued looking for her friends, luckily it didn’t take long. Riya left them for a moment to find a teacher to help them find the battle course tent. The teacher was a Kijin named Heather, she was ranting to them on and on about how excited she was to be getting new students for her history class. She took them to a tent entitled battle study, wished them luck then left to help someone else. The line for the tent was long; it looked like it was the longest line out of all the other courses.
Utada saw that a bit further in the line were the group of friends she had met. With the young boy now being awake. The baron girl turned around briefly, noticed Utada and gave a friendly wave.
“How do you know her?” Riya questioned.
“Literally bumped into her.” Utada laughed embarrassment.
The line moved rather quickly, only taking a matter of fifteen minutes before there were only a few people in front of them. Everything halted though with everyone hearing a boy screaming. Utada stepped barely out of line to see if she could see what was going on. There was a kijin boy yelling at the girl sitting behind the table. He was speaking loudly, making it very easy to hear what he was saying.
“You are telling me I am not allowed to apply because I was kicked out from class once! That is ridiculous! It wasn’t even my fault!” He shouted as the girl calmly swiped the screen in front of her, not even looking at him.
“From what the teacher has noted. You tried to force a kiss on a girl, when she pushed you away. You punched her boyfriend, broke three tables and began a fight with your fellow classmates. I do believe that means it is your fault.” She paused, glancing up at him causing him to step back.
“Now you may either leave, or I will show you what it means to have a fight.” She finished in a calm yet threatening manner. The boy looked as if he was about to speak but quickly changed his mind, walking away.
“I think that’s Tessa.” She heard someone whisper.
“Yea, she is the girl who won four international battle tournaments within her second term at the school.” Someone else spoke.
It was only another five more minutes before Utada was now before the girl called Tessa. All the others were able to sign in without issue. Yet she worried it may be different for her. She recalled how Nani had to adjust a few of the documents when she applied. When they asked her race Utada was still unsure, was she truly was a magical human as Nani claimed. Utada ran her fingers through her teal hair for a minute before touching her barely pointed ear which is not very natural for a human. There was also the fact she remembered once feeling as though she had horns as well as wings. She told herself all of that may have just been a very realistic dream. Hopefully everything will turn out okay.
She stared at Tessa who was reading the pale screen before swiping it after she was done. Tessa hair was a long very dark navy blue, her eyes a light brown and she had very beautiful glasses that curved like a butterfly. She tapped the screen twice and Utada noticed an error appeared. Tessa seemed surprised redoing it once more with the error appearing again. When she went to try once more the crowd around them let out a gasp causing her to pause. A woman with short curly brown hair approached Tessa from behind a placed a hand on her should.
The woman eyes were a glowing walnut red; she was very curving wearing a crop top with spenders, shorts yet no shoes, her toes beautifully manicured. The woman before her was Glenda a primal celestial dragon and believed to be the strongest of all celestials, with some saying she may be a celestial god. She stared at Utada before reaching out to gentle move a strain of hair behind Utadas ear. She then took the screen from Tessa quickly typed a few things, swiped a few times before handing it back, then walking away without a word. Utada stood in awe, completely lost for words like everyone else. Tessa was the one to snap her back to reality.
“You are approved; you may wait with the others for transfer to the university.” She spoke as she gestured to where others who have been approved were. Utada nodded her head, quickly walking over to where her friends were waiting.
“I can’t believe I just saw thy Glenda.” Riya spoke.
“I wonder what she is doing here of all places?” Juno questioned.
“She is going to be teaching some kind of class. She is even going to pick which students will attend.” Kitsu spoke walking over to them overhearing their conversation. He and Juno gave a quick hug.
“Do we all have a chance to be picked?” Fiona questioned.
“I believe so seeing as you all entered for the battle class. Just need to prove yourself in the fighting portion of the test. I think that’s the first thing you will all be doing.” Kitsu answered.
“I am sure the likelihood is still rather low. I bet she has some high standards.” Fiona sighed with everyone nodding their heads in agreement. She knew that they all had their own talents but probably were not talented enough to impress Glenda. Utada wondered if she maybe showed some of her oracle power but knew that was not the smartest idea. It would draw a lot of attention toward her, as well as the fact her power is a bit unstable. She was about to ask Kitsu if he had any other inside info, but he was called away. The group then decided that it was best for them to go to where food was being served while they waited for further instruction.
