Matheran Trip -Uunforgettable love story
Matheran Trip – Rain, Mountains, and Our Unforgettable Love Story
It was during the monsoon season last year when, one evening, my future husband suddenly said to me, "Tomorrow, we're going to Matheran."
At first, I was completely surprised. I wondered how we could plan such a long trip before our wedding, especially since I had to work on Saturday. But with his loving persuasion—and a little insistence—he convinced me, and we finally planned a two-day weekend getaway to Matheran.
About Matheran
Before sharing our journey, let me tell you a little about Matheran.
Matheran is one of the most beautiful hill stations in Maharashtra. It is known as Asia's only pollution-free hill station because motor vehicles are not allowed there. Visitors can explore the town only by walking, horse riding, or taking the famous toy train. The cool mountain breeze, lush green hills, waterfalls, breathtaking valley viewpoints, and peaceful atmosphere make Matheran a paradise for nature lovers. And yes—you'll find playful monkeys almost everywhere!
Our Journey Begins
Early on Saturday morning, we took a local train to Neral Railway Station. From there, we hired a shared taxi, which charged ₹100 per person, to reach the hill station's entry point. After purchasing our entry tickets, we stepped into the beautiful world of Matheran.
The entrance itself was incredibly picturesque. We spent some time clicking lots of photos together.
From there, we had three options to continue our journey—ride the toy train, hire horses, or simply walk. We decided that such a beautiful destination should be explored on foot.
Holding each other's hands, we began our walk. The cool breeze, mist-covered green hills, and gentle monsoon rain made everything feel like a scene from a romantic movie.
There were plenty of monkeys along the way. I was a little scared of them, but my future husband was happily playing around and enjoying their company.
As we walked, we enjoyed delicious local treats like sour Indian berries (ber), fresh cucumber, refreshing kokum juice, and chilled buttermilk. Every now and then, the toy train would slowly pass by, adding even more charm to the scenery. My husband captured some beautiful videos and photos of me with the toy train in the background.
After walking for quite a while, we finally reached the Matheran market area, where our hotel was located.
A Memorable Tent Stay
Our hotel was surrounded by lush trees and dense forest. It offered both rooms and luxury tents, and we chose to stay in a tent.
Spending a rainy night inside a cozy tent was truly an unforgettable experience.
After taking some rest and freshening up, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Later, we played badminton, while my husband had a great time swimming in the pool.
In the afternoon, we got ready to explore Matheran's famous viewpoints. The trail was nearly three kilometers long, passing through beautiful forest paths. Holding hands, we walked together, enjoying every step of the journey.
Every viewpoint seemed even more beautiful than the previous one.
Along the way, we clicked countless photos, enjoyed roasted corn, ate hot and spicy Maggi noodles, visited a peaceful lake, and offered prayers at an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
By the end of the day, my feet were aching from all the walking.
The Magical Sunset Point
As soon as we returned to the hotel, I thought it was finally time to relax.
But my future husband seemed to have endless energy.
He smiled and said, "Come on! Sunset Point is just one kilometer behind the hotel."
At first, I refused because I was exhausted, but once again, he lovingly convinced me.
We hurried toward Sunset Point as evening approached. The forest trail felt a little spooky. Tall trees surrounded us, monkeys called from the branches, birds chirped in the distance, and a light drizzle made everything even more mysterious.
We kept walking and walking, wondering when we would finally arrive.
Then suddenly...
We reached Sunset Point.
The view before us was beyond words.
A blanket of clouds floated over the valleys, thick mist covered the mountains, and the breathtaking scenery looked nothing less than heaven on earth.
We stood there quietly for a long time, simply taking in the magical beauty before returning to the hotel.
An Unforgettable Night
The evening at the hotel was filled with exciting activities.
There was a delicious dinner, barbecue, live singing, dancing, a warm bonfire, and even a couple's dance. We enjoyed every single moment together.
Later, after relaxing in our tent, we decided to go for a night walk.
Near the hotel was a beautiful garden.
As soon as we entered, we froze.
The entire garden was covered in thick fog. The statues looked strange and almost frightening. Under one large tree sat a girl, completely still. Her face wasn't visible, and she didn't move at all.
For a moment, we genuinely got scared.
Then suddenly, she stood up.
As we looked more carefully, we realized she was simply waiting for her boyfriend, who had gone to the washroom.
The fear instantly disappeared, and we both burst into laughter.
The Next Morning
The next morning, we enjoyed some time in the swimming pool before having another delicious breakfast, which offered a wide variety of dishes.
Later, we played some indoor games at the hotel and then explored the local market.
We bought handmade bags, beautiful showpieces, and several souvenirs to remember our trip. We also visited more valley viewpoints and enjoyed a memorable horse ride.
Finally, we returned to the hotel, packed our luggage, and started our journey back home.
Memories That Will Last Forever
Our two-day trip to Matheran remains one of the most beautiful memories of my life.
We have traveled to many wonderful places since then, but the lush green mountains of Matheran, the peaceful forest trails, our magical tent stay, the stunning valley viewpoints, the soothing monsoon weather, and every precious moment spent together still hold a very special place in my heart.
Some journeys don't just take you to beautiful places—they leave you with memories that stay with you forever.
And our Matheran trip is one of those unforgettable memories. ❤️
