Chapter 1
LOGAN
I helped Danica into the cab. She grabbed my arm, fighting to pull me inside with her. “Dani, stop it!” I screamed. “I’m going inside, and you’re going home. You’re drunk. Go home, drink some water, and go to bed!”
At this point Danica was sobbing. “But… but I miss you, and they’re not letting me be on the cover with you, and… it’s not fair!” she wailed.
“Dani, listen,” I told her, taking her hand in mine. “I will always care about you, okay? And I worry about you. We can talk about this more tomorrow, when you’re sober.”
“You promise?” she whined.
“Promise,” I agreed. I apologized to the cab driver, handing him a small stack of bills. I gave him the address and told him I had tipped extra to ensure he made sure she got inside her apartment okay. As I closed the door and watched the cab peel away, a few cold, wet drops fell onto my face. The smell of rain was in the air. I ran inside and caught the elevator, eager to get back upstairs.
When I got inside, there was a coldness in the apartment that I knew I couldn’t attribute to the weather. Astra was shooting me daggers from the couch, and Toby had a tense look on his face. “Where’s Ambria?” I asked.
“Well, after she saw you making out with your ex, she left,” Astra snapped coldly.
“Making out? Dude, she threw herself at me!”
“Right. We’ve heard that one before, you know,” she muttered under her breath. “Must be so convenient for your ego to have women literally throw themselves at you all the time, huh?”
I threw my hands up in frustration. “What was I supposed to do, push her drunk ass down to the ground?” I cried. “I grabbed her and made her stop kissing me. I told her never to do it again! What more do you people want from me?”
“I want you to not break my twin sister’s heart!” Astra yelled, storming off to her bedroom and slamming the door behind her.
“Sorry, dude,” Toby mumbled. “I know it doesn’t mean much, but I believe you. We’ve all seen how ridiculous Dani can be, especially when she drinks. Something about these wrestling chicks, man… they’re all crazy.”
I sighed. “Do you know where Ambria went? I need to talk to her.”
