Chapter One: Nyx
Hunter and I sat on the beach at sunset, watching the waves lap the shore. Our hands rested close to each other on the sand. The urge to take his hand into mine was strong, but I didn't want to scare him off too soon.
He turned his head and smiled that beautiful smile at me, with a light sparkling in his eyes. "What?" I said playfully, smiling back.
"I was just thinking." He said, turning back to the ocean. I laughed, and scooted closer to the water, dipping my feet in the waves. "I think we should head back, it's getting dark." I said, looking at Hunter.
We stood, and he put a hand on my shoulder stopping me in my tracks. I turned towards him. He smiled slowly, and reached into his pocket. My eyes widened slightly, but I knew I was getting ahead of myself.
I was looking into his eyes when I felt the pain. A sharp throb in my side, and a wet warm feeling soaking my shirt. I looked down and saw a knife sticking out of my side. Hunter was holding it. He pulled it out quickly, and smiled at me.
"You might want to put pressure on that. You could bleed out." He said matter of factly. He stepped closer to me, grabbed my face and looked down into my eyes. It was almost sweet, almost tender. Almost.
He smiled and said, "I don't usually do this, but I love you so much. My muse, my weakness, my kismet, my angel. Let's play a game. Run. Run and run and run. I will chase. Let's see who wins." He kissed me on the lips, passionately. Despite the real knife in my side, the figurative knife in my back, I kissed him back, unable to resist him.
Then he pushed me roughly to the ground. I blinked up at him. As though a light switched on in my brain, I flinched and leapt up, running down the beach. When I looked back, he merely stood there, staring.
