Chapter 1

I watched as Meric and Roman went through the portal. My fucking dad wouldn’t allow me to go with them. I watched as they disappeared inside the blue circle. The packed room fell eerily silent as we all held our breaths in anticipation. To my shock, they were both thrown out, and the portal slammed shut.

“Meric!” I screamed as I raced to his side and kneeled beside him as he struggled to sit up.

“I’m alright, Alacia,” Meric wheezed, sitting up.

“What the hell happened?” My father demanded as he strode over to us.

“The portal kicked us out,” Roman grumbled as he climbed to his feet. “Apparently, we aren’t worthy of stepping inside of it.”

I threw my dad an told you so look as Meric and I both stood up.

My dad was about to protest when the building rumbled.

“We’re under attack!” My father shouted. “The fallen angels found us!”

“Get her out of here!” Roman shouted to Meric.

“Let’s go!” Meric grabbed me by the hand and pulled me towards the doors. We pushed our way out of the room as the others raced to their designated locations.

Are they gonna fight? Or are they gonna go into hiding like cowards?

Roman raced over and had us follow him out of the main entrance. We trotted down the steps and stopped dead in our tracks when fallen angels blocked us.

“What do you want?” Meric snarled at them.

“To finish what we started Meric,” Ritic Sadaron replied with a farce look on his handsome face. His red hair glistened in the sunlight. “Hand Alacia Tremblay over now!”

“You fallen angels need to leave my property now!” My father shouted from the stone steps.

“Or what?” Sennetta scoffed. Tall, slim, beautiful with long blonde hair and baby blue eyes.

“We’ll kill you!” my father replied. He started chanting something in an unknown language.

“He’s buying us some time!” Roman whispered to us. “We gotta move!”

A black magic seal shot up from the ground, enclosing the fallen angels inside of it.

“Magic,” Ritic smirked at him. “You know what you’re doing after all, mortal.”

“Get my daughter out of here Meric!” he shouted. “I can’t hold them off forever!”

“Dad!” I said as my grip tightened around the violin case. “Don’t be stupid!”

“This has always been my fate,” he said, giving me a sad smile. “The prophecy of you saving the world has always been your destiny!”

Meric picked me up and slung me over one shoulder while he grabbed Roman and leaped up into the air. His massive wings caught the air as he flapped them higher and higher.

Ritic easily broke the black seal and flew towards my father. Gripping his sword, he stabbed him in the abdomen.

“DAD!” I screamed as my eyes widened in shock. My father’s body crumpled to the ground as dark scarlet blood seeped out of his wound.

“Burn this place to the ground!” Ritic ordered. The fallen angels started killing everyone. Blood curtailing screams reached my ears before the smoke appeared below us.

“Go to the lodge to the right!” Roman shouted over the roar of the wind. Meric flew lower before landing deep in the forest. Setting us down, I took in the back up lodge. It was small, made of stone. “Let’s get inside quickly!”

We followed Roman up the steps as he yanked open the heavy wooden door. We entered the lodge before he closed the door.

“Now what?” I asked them. “My father was the last person who could help us… and now he’s gone.”

“Your father trained me to become your guardian, Alacia,” Roman went on. “Course that was before we found out you were being protected by a fallen angel.”

“You need to rest,” Meric said, as I looked at him. “Your exhausted.”

“My dad was just murdered in front of me.” I shook my head. “Those fallen angels are still out there.”

Roman pressed a pressure point behind my ear, causing me to fall forward. Meric caught me and handed the violin case to Roman.

Exhaustion hit me like a ton of bricks as I allowed the exhaustion to take over.

“See you when you wake up, Alacia,” Meric whispered down to me. “Sleep.”

My eyes closed, and I fell into a deep sleep.

Would we still be here when I woke up?

I was about to find out in 12 hours.
