My alarm goes off at seven- thirty.

Thank you. I was dreaming.

Carly’s light is on in her room.

“Hey.” I open the door.

“Hey.” She smiles.

Although she’s in pain.

I can tell she’s in pain.

I sit on her bed. “You okay?” I ask her.

“Yeah.” She answers.

No she’s not.

I can tell she’s not.

I’m supposed to see Darren today.

I’m so excited.

“You want to come to Dunkin with Hannah and I?” I ask Carly,

A picture of the two of us hangs in her mirror:

“No thank you.” She says.

“Okay.”

I grab some clothes from my room, and grab a soft pink shirt and black pants.

I head into the shower.

“Hey.” I head into the living room, waiting for TOA- the transportation systen to take me to Dunkin to meet with Hannah, before dad and I go get my new pair of glasses.

I think of the messages from Carly yesterday.

She got fired again.

I feel like no one is giving her a chance. And it just keeps getting worse.

“Hey.” Dad calls to me from the computer

“Hey.” I’m watching Public freakouts on my phone.

“You have plans today?” Dad asks.

“Yeah, Hannah and I are going to Dunkin. I’ll be home at eleven.”

“Good, then we can go get your glasses.” Dad answers.

“Okay.”

Carly comes into the living room. She’s wearing the same clothes from last night.

She’s crying.

“Hey.” I say gently.

She sniffles.

“What’s wrong?” I ask her.

“Everything.” She answers crying.

“I’m such a loser.”

“No you’re not.”

I can see how much pain she’s in.

“Why do you say that?” I ask her.

“I just need a hug.”

That carries innocence. That reminds me of a little girl at the preschool I work at.

It’s her inner child.

It shows her sensitivity and vulnerability.

I hug her, not knowing it would be the last time I ever hug my sister.

“Do you want to go to Dunkin with me, and Hannah? She wanted you to come.”

“No!” She’s angry. “I’m just gonna go in mt room, and I’m gonna stay here all day today.”

I follow her to her room.

“My room is a complete mess! I don’t even know where to start?”

Half-Claimed

Bargara4670: Half-Claimed was easy to read with a well-thought-out plot that kept me interested throughout. Many of these revenge stories seem to have the abused heroine turning into a vicious harpy who I end up disliking as much as her abusers. I like to feel empathy with the main characters, and I found that I...
