Singapor

Or the Republic of Singapore, is a unitary parliamentary republic, as well as an island and city-state. It is spread over approximately 65 islands.

It is the second smallest country in Asia.

Population - Chinese, Malays and Indians.

The official languages are Malay, English, Mandarin and Tamil.


Religion - Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Taoism and Hinduism

Currency - Singapore dollar (SGD), 1 SGD is approximately 16.50 CZK

Previously, Singapore was called Temasek, it became a center of trade as a British colony, but during World War II it was occupied by the Japanese. After its end, it was regained by the British Crown. In the 20th century, it gained self-government and became a member of the Malay Federation. It was expelled from the federation after 2 years due to disagreements with the others. In 1965, it gained independence and the title of one of the four Asian tigers.

Flag - The Singapore flag is a 2:3 sheet of paper with two horizontal stripes, red and white. In the upper corner is a white crescent moon and five white stars arranged in a circle. It was first unfurled on the steps of the town hall on December 3, 1959. It was presented to the world in 1965 at the UN after the declaration of independence.

Coat of arms - The Singaporean national coat of arms consists of a red shield with a white crescent moon above it, with five white stars arranged in a circle. The shield is supported by a pair of shield-bearers standing on a pair of rice stalks. The shield-bearer standing heraldically on the right is a lion, on the left is a Malayan tiger. Below the rice stalks is a blue ribbon with a gold inscription in Malay MAJULAH SINGAPURA (Forward, Singapore, which is the name of the Singapore anthem).

Expansion of territory - many of Singapore's islands are being expanded by filling the surrounding sea with sand. From 1965 to 2024, Singapore's area increased from 580 km² to 736 km², an increase of approximately 27%.

Climate - Singapore has a tropical equatorial climate, very warm and rainy all year round. Monsoons bring a lot of rainfall. This climate is suitable for growing some types of durian plants. This plant is not allowed to be brought into government buildings and the metro in Singapore due to its notorious smell. In Singapore, there are no seasons, the weather is relatively constant. Temperatures range from usually range from 23 to 32°C. From July to October, there is often fog caused by forest fires in neighboring Indonesia, especially in Sumatra.

Chewing gum - its sale, import and use are prohibited (except for chewing gum for medical purposes).

Vaping and e-cigarettes - possession, importation and use of electronic cigarettes is strictly prohibited and severely punished.

Litter and spitting - throwing trash, cigarette butts, or spitting in public spaces is punishable by a hefty fine.

Animal feeding - feeding pigeons and other wild animals is prohibited.

Jaywalking, or crossing the road outside or near a crosswalk, is illegal.

Failure to flush the toilet - after using a public toilet, you must flush, otherwise you risk a fine.
