Chapter 1
Hey jim have you seen that new movie the nun sam said to jim. Ya the nun looks like our class teacher miss Jenny said jim.Sam choked on his soda, coughing up a laugh that drew sharp glances from students nearby. They were sitting at their usual corner table in the crowded school cafeteria, trying to finish their lunch before the next bell."Dude, shut up!" Sam hissed, wiping his mouth with a napkin while scanning the room. "If Miss Jenny hears you say that, we are dead. Seriously dead."Jim leaned back, completely unbothered, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "Think about it, Sam. The pale face? The dark, heavy wardrobe? That piercing stare that freezes you in your tracks when you haven't done your homework? It is literally an identical match."As if summoned by the mention of her name, the heavy wooden doors of the cafeteria swung open. A sudden silence rippled through the room, starting from the front tables and washing back toward the boys.Miss Jenny walked inShe wore her signature floor-length charcoal grey dress. Her hair was pulled back into a bun so tight it looked painful. Her sharp eyes scanned the room like a hawk looking for prey. She didn’t smile. She never smiled. She began walking down the center aisle, straight toward their row."Don't look up," Sam whispered, suddenly fascinated by his half-eaten sandwich. "Just look down and blend inBut Jim couldn't help himself. He sneaked a glance just as Miss Jenny stopped right next to their table. The temperature in the room felt like it dropped ten degrees.James. Samuel," Miss Jenny said, her voice low, smooth, and chillingly calm. "I trust you both are utilizing this time to prepare for the pop quiz next period, rather than gossiping."Yes, Miss Jenny," Sam squeaked out instantlyJim cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure. "Of course, Miss Jenny. We were actually just discussing... cinema."Miss Jenny tilted her head slightly. For a terrifying second, her eyes flashed with an intensity that looked exactly like the movie poster Jim had seen the night before.
"Fascinating," she whispered, leaning in just a fraction closer. "Just remember, boys. I see everything. And I am always watching. She straightened up and glided away, her long dress rustling softly against the floor.
Sam let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding and slumped in his chair. "Okay, you're right. That was terrifying. We are definitely skipping third If you want to keep the story going, let me knowThe atmosphere in the room shifted from a joke to pure survival when the bell finally rang for third period. Sam and Jim ducked out of the main hallway, hiding inside an old janitor's closet to map out their escape, unaware that Miss Jenny—or Miss Kenny, as the dark rumors of the town actually named her—was already steps ahead of them.Inside the dusty room, Jim grabbed Sam's arm, his playful attitude completely gone. "Sam, I wasn't just joking about the face. My older brother told me about Miss Kenny before he disappeared last year. She isn't a teacher. She is a rogue nun from an exiled convent who uses this school as a hunting ground.Sam's face drained of color as the light bulb overhead flickered and died. Before he could speak, the closet door clicked locked from the outside.
he air turned freezing cold, and the smell of burning sulfur filled the tiny space. From the other side of the wood, a low, rhythmic chanting began in a language they couldn't understand."She knows," Sam whispered, his voice trembling as he backed into the wall.Suddenly, the floor beneath their feet gave wayThey tumbled down a steep, hidden stone chute, crashing onto a damp dirt floor far beneath the school's foundations. Jim groaned, pulling himself up and turning on his phone's flashlight. The beam cut through the darkness, revealing a massive, cavernous chamber made of ancient catacombs.Black candles flickered on stone altars. Runes were painted on the walls in what looked like dried blood. And in the center of the room stood several rusted iron cages.Inside the cages were the missing children of the town, their eyes blank and glassy, trapped in a deep trance."Help us," Jim gasped, running toward the nearest cage, but a sudden gust of wind blew out his phone light. The chanting stopped.
A single spotlight illuminated the far end of the chamber. There stood Miss Kenny, but she was no longer wearing her school dress. She wore the tattered, pitch-black habit of a nun. Her skin was a decayed, ghostly white, and her eyes burned with an unnatural yellow fire."You should have studied for the quiz, boys," she hissed, her voice echoing with the force of a demonic chorus. She raised a gnarled, skeletal hand, holding a heavy silver amulet. As she began to recite a black magic incantation, the ground began to shake, and shadowy hands started rising from the dirt, grabbing Sam and Jim by their anklesThe shadowy, rotten hands erupted completely from the dirt floor, wrapping around my ankles like freezing bands of iron. I screamed, thrashing wildly, but the grip only tightened, pulling me down into the damp soil. Beside me, Sam fell to his knees, his phone flying from his hand and shattering on the stone. The dark chamber plunged into a sickening, dim red glow as Miss Kenny raised her silver amulet high into the air. Her jaw unhinged unnaturally, stretching her ghostly pale skin as a low, demonic screech echoed from her throat.
You should have studied for the quiz, boys
she hissed, her yellow eyes burning directly into mine.
“Because your first lesson in the dark arts
begins right now.
