Chapter 1: Holy Shit, I’ve Become Lorgar?

[Volume One: Default]

(Brain storage unit, protected by a Void Shield)

Beneath the Himalayas

A vast laboratory lay buried deep within the mountain range. A tall figure stood in the shadows, and before it were 21 embryos, 21 creatures resembling human infants, suspended in gestation pods.

“Soon. The time of humanity’s resurgence.”

The tall shadow spoke with calm certainty.

Then, after the figure left the laboratory, a Warp Storm suddenly swept through it. The 21 embryos were scattered across the cosmos.

One of them — the embryo designated Roman Numeral XVII, was no exception. It rode the currents of the Warp through the endless void, until it arrived on a gleaming planet somewhere in the galaxy.

This was Colchis: a perfect, beautiful world steeped in faith.

The embryo fell from the sky and landed on the outskirts of a city. A group of tribal people found it. They wanted to take the child in and raise it, but a man named Kor Phaeron put a stop to all of that.

He slaughtered the entire tribe and took the boy away to raise as his own.

Kor Phaeron was the high priest of the Covenant faith on that world. Almost no one dared to cross him. And Kor Phaeron was also among those on that planet who had been corrupted by Chaos.

.

Lorgar’s mind lurched into a sudden daze. One second he remembered sitting at the club, and the next he was here.

His whole body felt numb. He pushed himself up wearily and came face to face with a half-length mirror set directly in front of him.

Through it, he could see his own upper body.

He was enormous. Several meters tall, his skin a deep bronze, etched all over with golden runes of unknown origin.

His hair, which he’d always had, was gone. A shaved head stared back at him from the glass.

Three seconds of blank silence.

Then the words just fell out: “Holy shit...”

“What the hell... I’ve become Lorgar?”

His mind immediately kicked into overdrive. I’m Lorgar, so where is this? Has the Horus Heresy happened yet? Do I still have a chance to get back to the Emperor? What about Guilliman? Is there still room for one more sidekick?

Just then, the gilded doors behind him swung open. A pale-skinned man in a red robe stepped through, face twisted into a vicious expression.

“Oh, my dear Lorgar — why are you still standing there in a daze.”

Lorgar looked at the man and searched through his memories for anything on him.

This guy. This was Kor Phaeron.

“Lorgar, what’s wrong?”

“Your soul...”

Kor Phaeron suddenly sensed something was off. He drew a dagger and fixed Lorgar with a ferocious glare, barking: “Who are you? How dare you occupy the vessel chosen by the Exalted One—”

BANG!

Before Kor Phaeron could finish, Lorgar drove a fist straight through his chest. As a Primarch, Lorgar’s strength far surpassed that of any Space Marine, dealing with an ordinary Chaos worshipper barely warranted a second thought. One punch sent the head flying.

“No.”

Kor Phaeron coughed up a mouthful of blood and collapsed to the ground.

“My lord!”

Several spear-carrying guards came rushing in. The moment they stepped through the doors, they found Kor Phaeron’s corpse on the ground and Lorgar standing over it with blood dripping from his fist.

The lead guard’s mind started working fast. Within seconds, his eyes landed on the dagger lying in the pool of blood. The picture was clear enough.

“Great Bishop! Did this vile wretch attempt to assassinate you?!” the captain exclaimed.

Never mind the why, that wasn’t their business to question. Stumbling onto a scene like this and not ending up ground to dust was already getting off lucky. They all knew perfectly well which questions to ask and which ones to leave alone.

“Take the body away and burn it.” Lorgar’s low voice settled over the assembled guards.

“Understood, Bishop.”

The men wrapped what remained of Kor Phaeron, nearly split in two, in silk and carried it out of the palace.

After the guards left, handmaidens entered and wiped the floor clean, then cleaned the blood from Lorgar’s fist.

Once the room was empty save for him, Lorgar began working through where exactly he stood in the timeline.

Going by memory, he should currently be in the 856th year of the 30th Millennium, right around the time Lorgar had just unified his home world.

In the original timeline, around that same year, Lorgar unified the fractured Colchis. Then in the 857th year, that old man the Emperor showed up and dragged Lorgar onto the ill-fated train ride that was the Great Crusade.

And judging by Kor Phaeron’s reaction just now, Lorgar recalled a rumor heard before: that Erebus and Kor Phaeron had been sent by the Chaos Gods specifically to corrupt Lorgar. Based on what just happened, that rumor was almost certainly true.

“Alright... Alright... Alright...”

He could feel a headache coming on. The timeline he had landed in was looking thoroughly grim.

But even so, here he was, and there was nothing to do but make the best of it. He would take the true Word Bearers and give those bastard Chaos Gods a lesson they would never forget.

He took a moment to settle himself, changed into a clean white robe, and walked out of his chambers.

This was Vharadesh, capital of Colchis. Lorgar led his army here, and the city had fallen to him without a single drop of blood.

The Covenant Schism had split the faith into two factions, the followers of the Old Faith and Lorgar’s Brotherhood, and a large-scale holy war known as the Schism Wars had erupted between them. In the end, every Colchisian was forced to choose a side. The war lasted six years.

After that, Lorgar gathered a vast army and marched on the capital.

He delivered an intense sermon before the city gates. The gates opened to him. The Junior Priests of Colchis presented him with the bodies of Covenant missionaries and tribal elders as gifts.

With Vharadesh taken, Lorgar’s forces moved from city to city, occupying them peacefully when they could, or putting all to the sword when the inhabitants refused to bow before the divine.

After years of fighting, the last city to resist was Gahevarla, shielded by a Storm Generator from the Dark Age of Technology.

Lorgar miraculously approached the vortex surrounding the city, caused the storm to part, and let his army pour through the gap to take Gahevarla.

“Right then. Let me think about what comes next.”

A beat.

“Okay. Next up: find that bastard Erebus and pull his guts out.”
