A Story in Time –
The Adventure of Lyra
Chapter 1
In the far future, inside the Timenomore Tower, Lyra opened her eyes for the first time as a fully operational Temporal Agent.
She was a true cyborg — a carefully engineered hybrid of organic tissue and advanced mechanical systems. Her body was powered by a steady thermal energy core nested deep in her chest, a fragment of Doctor Z’s own soul woven into the design to allow her to cross the barriers of time. Her cybernetic brain blended biological matter with electronic components, giving her both the intuition of organic thought and the precision of machine logic.
Beside her stood Vivy.
They had been built as a matched pair. Vivy was nearly identical in design, but her role was different. She was the anchor — the one who maintained the temporal link that would always pull Lyra home. To ensure that bond remained unbreakable, the creators had programmed Vivy to feel a deep, genuine attachment to Lyra. In turn, Lyra had been made to believe that Vivy was her lover. It was not a lie in the emotional sense, but it was a carefully engineered truth. As long as that connection existed, Lyra would always want to return to the year 2857.
Today was special.
It was the first day Lyra would activate the temporal field generator built into her right forearm.
They stood in a deserted field east of Montréal, where the old refinery district had once stood — Monica’s former territory. Nothing remained now except rusted steel and cracked concrete. It was a quiet, empty place. Perfect for a first test.
Lyra faced the open field, heart steady, cyan core pulsing with quiet anticipation.
“Ready?” Vivy’s voice came through the internal link.
“Ready.”
Lyra focused. The generator in her forearm hummed to life. A swirling portal of deep purple and violet light tore open in front of her, ten feet wide and crackling with temporal energy.
Her target was simple: teleport two kilometers across the old refinery grounds to a waiting SCLF soldier at precise coordinates. A short, controlled jump through physical space.
Lyra smiled — a rare, genuine expression of excitement — and stepped through.
The world twisted.
She was not standing in the open field.
She stood inside a vast underground dome. The air was stale and cold. Dim emergency lights flickered along curved walls of reinforced concrete and steel. Her internal systems immediately tried to orient her.
Location: Unknown
Vertical displacement: 215 meters below surface
Horizontal displacement: approximately 15 meters from intended exit point
Lyra’s expression tightened.
Refinery District Underground Bunker. Constructed under the supervision of Monica the Rogue in 2398. Designed as a survival structure for the Great Catastrophe of 2587.
She had never seen this place before. It shouldn’t even have existed yet in her personal timeline.
Lyra raised her right arm and attempted to open a new portal.
Nothing.
The carrier signal from Vivy could not reach this deep underground. The temporal link was severed.
For the first time since her activation, Lyra stood completely alone.
She exhaled slowly, the sound of coolant and soft mechanical systems the only noise in the vast chamber.
There was no choice now.
She would have to find her own way out.
