Chapter 1
I STOOD on the street outside my house for eight full minutes before braving the three concrete steps up to the door. Opening my hand bag to get the key ring, I forced myself up another step. I reminded myself that nothing could go wrong if I could only get inside my house.
One more breathed in and I was at the top of the stairs, face to face with my worn out white front door. I forced the key into the lock and sadly kicked the door wide open. “Home sweet home,” I said with a sigh. Today is different. After receiving a phone call earlier, my heart was broken, torn to a million little pieces and it hurts like hell! I wish at this very moment, a Magician would suddenly appear and make all this pain go away like magic.
I met someone online by the name of Ambrose through this social network site. Our love affair was developed by exchanging many e-mails correspondence between us and personal phone calls with one another. At first, it was only friendly conversations on the net, just like when we meet a new friend in person. He sent me messages that made me happy and in-love again. He knew what he was trying to say to a woman who’s vulnerable and wanted a new relationship. I told him that in one of my emails to him. Ambrose knew that I was a married woman and a widow before we became involved with one another. It didn’t matter to him. “I love you,” he wrote to me at one important email I received. That was it. I was waiting for that message then I got hooked!
In the five months in which we started the chats, phone calls and e-mails from one another, I became fonder of Ambrose. My family, friends and acquaintances on that social media network, knew what was happening about the affair. I knew that it was a mistake of making the relationship known to my family and friends in its early phase. Then one day, I received the most awaited e-mail from Ambrose. It was a long message, words from a man who was in love. I wasn’t surprised because I felt the same way for him too. At the end of the message it says, “Will you become my wife?” Oh my God, “Ambrose just proposed to me,” I said to myself, elated and very happy. Before his email of marriage proposal, I was convinced that Ambrose was also in loved with me. From his many emails and phone calls, he always signed off at the end of his email, saying “I love you.” A woman who felt the same way with a man can’t resist that line.
