Chapter Three — The Secret Between Us

Amara barely slept that night.

Daniel's words kept repeating in her mind.

Someone else remembers what happened three years ago.

She sat beside her bedroom window, watching the rain slide down the glass.

Who was that man?

And why did he want her?

Her phone suddenly vibrated.

Unknown Number.

Amara stared at the screen.

A message appeared.

“Ask Daniel what happened after the accident.”

Her heart began racing.

Before she could reply, another message arrived.

“He hasn't told you everything.”

Amara immediately called Daniel.

He answered on the first ring.

“Amara?”

“Daniel, what happened after the accident?”

There was silence.

“Who told you?”

“So it's true?”

Daniel sighed.

“I wanted to protect you.”

“Protect me from what?”

“From the truth.”

Amara's voice trembled.

“I deserve to know.”

Daniel finally spoke.

“After the accident, I discovered that the crash wasn't an accident.”

Amara froze.

“What?”

“Someone had tampered with my car.”

“Who?”

“I don't know.”

“But you said someone from your past wants me.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Daniel hesitated.

“Because they believe you saw something that night.”

Amara shook her head.

“I don't remember seeing anything.”

“I know. That's why you're in danger.”

Suddenly, someone knocked on Amara's door.

She stopped breathing.

“Daniel…”

“What happened?”

“Someone is at my door.”

“Don't open it.”

The knocking came again.

Three slow knocks.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Amara stepped away from the door.

“Daniel, I'm scared.”

“I'm coming. Lock the door and stay inside.”

She quickly locked it.

Then she heard a whisper from the other side.

“Amara…”

Her blood turned cold.

She knew that voice.

It was the voice from the phone.

She backed away.

Then everything went silent.

Minutes later, Daniel arrived.

He rushed inside and found Amara sitting on the floor, shaking.

He immediately knelt beside her.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded, tears filling her eyes.

Daniel pulled her into his arms.

For the first time, Amara didn't resist.

She held him tightly.

“I don't understand why this is happening,” she whispered.

Daniel gently touched her hair.

“I'm sorry.”

She looked into his eyes.

“Promise me something.”

“What?”

“Don't lie to me again.”

Daniel stared at her.

“I promise.”

Their faces slowly moved closer.

Neither of them spoke.

Then Daniel kissed her.

It was gentle at first, almost hesitant.

But when Amara wrapped her arms around him, the kiss deepened.

For a few seconds, there was no danger.

No secrets.

No fear.

Only them.

Then Daniel pulled away.

“I've loved you since the night you saved my life.”

Amara's eyes filled with tears.

“I think…”

She paused.

“I think I've loved you too. I just didn't remember.”

Daniel smiled.

But before he could say another word, his phone rang.

He answered.

A familiar voice whispered:

“You should have listened to me, Daniel.”

Daniel's face went pale.

The caller continued.

“Because now that she remembers…”

A pause.

“…she's going to remember everything.”

The call ended.

Daniel slowly looked at Amara.

And then she suddenly grabbed her head.

A flash of memory hit her.

A dark road.

A broken car.

A man standing behind Daniel.

And a gun.

Amara screamed.

“I remember him!”

Daniel held her tightly.

“Who?”

She looked into his terrified eyes.

“The man who caused the accident.”

Then she whispered his name.

Daniel's face went completely white.
