Have you read Tree and Leaf? It's an essay by Tolkien on fairy stories. It would be interesting to see your story expanded into something larger. Tell us more about this kingdom. Make it exist."
Books--the Human Art
"I love this story for a number of reasons, but chiefly because it's the story I would sit down and write if I was clever enough to think of it. I love how it opens, with the mystery of books that are left opened and obviously read in a library...and the curious young prince who investigates these nocturnal goings-on. I think it's a clever twist that the fairy comes to our world because we have the best books! That's a nice metaphor, that the perfect world (of the fairies), lacks the imperfection that makes great literature, and that we, with all our wars and disease and loss, can alone create great art. Damn--why didn't I think of that? :) The story is also full of humor and clever touches throughout. In a few pages it packs in a lot of storytelling and charm, and it is utterly effortless to read, Such a joy throughout. My single criticism of this amazing story is simply this: it doesn't give us enough (yet)! I was so taken by this beautiful tale, with its charming idea of a prince and a fairy who form a friendship over books, that I wanted to see more--maybe wanted them even to fall in love? Stranger things could happen! The last paragraph is so teasing that I would like to see more of how it gets to this point. But that might be selfish of me as a reader, rather than any true critique of the story. Other readers can judge for themselves."
Fun story
"I thought it was a cute story. I liked the idea of the reading fairy and the prince. From the beginning, you made their world seem very real. I marked it down because the beginning felt very rushed, and there were some grammatical errors. But all in all, I thought it was a very enjoyable story. Good work."
Great message about the love of reading!
"I love the message of this story. Books are an amazing gift and should be cherished. And enjoying them with others is even better! There were some grammatical issues, especially with tense, and some typos here and there. Also, it might be a good idea to briefly shed light on why the royal family would be so concerned with a library. Kings and Queens and even Princes probably have more important affairs to attend to versus wondering why books aren't getting put away in the library down the hall. Maybe there are sacred books in there, or hidden books that might be dangerous in the hands of bad folks. Just a thought. Overall a great read!"
