Prologue
The twin suns of Eridanus hovered low on the horizon, casting long shadows across the transformed colony. A year ago, this settlement had been a modest cluster of buildings, barely surviving against the harsh environment of the system. Now, through tireless work and an influx of resources, it stood as a thriving hub. The streets were paved with polished stone, reinforced structures stretched toward the sky, and energy grids hummed steadily, bringing light to a world that had once been defined by struggle.
Among the changes stood the Vega household - a symbol of what perseverance could achieve. The small weathered home where Orion and his father, Jarek Vega had once lived had been rebuilt from the ground up. Now, it was a two-story residence with wide glass windows and sleek architecture, a balance between warmth and modern design. The original structure wasn’t forgotten though; Jarek had insisted on keeping the old wooden door as part of the new house, a reminder of their humble beginnings.
Orion sat on the balcony overlooking the colony, the cool evening breeze brushing against his face. The weight of the past year pressed against him. The Rift, the gateway to an ancient and destructive force, remained unsealed, a constant threat looming over the galaxy. From it had emerged the Eclipse Order, an organization bent on awakening a weapon capable of ending entire star systems.
The battle with Serith had scarred him deeply, both physically and emotionally. It had been a fight to protect not just Eridanus but the galaxy itself. Yet, the Rift’s power had remained untamed, and Serith’s defeat had only been the beginning. The Eclipse Order, with their vast resources and chilling determination, had risen from the chaos, seizing the opportunity to sow destruction.
As Orion looked out at the bustling colony he couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt. Orion had chosen to remain in Eridanus for the past year, not out of reluctance, but because this was where it had all started. His journey into the unknown, to upload his mother’s legacy. He had first dreamed of reaching for the stars, and here he would prepare for the trials let to come.
The training grounds beyond the house were filled with recruits - men and women who had come from all corners of the galaxy, drawn by the promise of resistance and survival. Orion watched them spar under the glow of artificial lights, their movements sharp, their faces determined. This was the heart of the colony’s resurgence: its people, united in purpose, unwilling to bow to the Eclipse Order’s tyranny.
Inside the house, remnants of the past intertwined with signs of progress. The old wooden dining table, now reinforced and polished, stood at the center of a spacious room that doubled as a meeting hall. Orion’s quarters were a mix of personal and professional - a bed tucked into the corner, shelves lined with star charts, and Kaela Vega’s pendant resting on his desk. Its mysteries still eluded him, but he knew it was the key to unlocking his mother’s legacy and the answers to defeating the Order.
The night deepened, the stars becoming more vivid in the sky. Orion’s gaze shifted upward, toward the starlit sky. Somewhere beyond it, the Eclipse Order was plotting their next move, and somewhere within the darkness lay the answers he sought about Kaela, and his own destiny.
The pendant felt warm in his palm as he held it, its faint glow pulsing like a heartbeat. His mother’s voice echoed in his mind, words she had left him long ago: “Even in the darkest of nights, the stars will guide you. Trust them and trust yourself.”
Orion stood, his resolve solidifying like steel. “The Rift won’t remain a threat forever,” he said quietly to himself. “I’ll seal it. I’ll stop the Eclipse Order. And I’ll finish what my mother started.”
The colony lights shimmered behind him as he descended the stairs, heading toward the training grounds. His next chapter was only beginning, and the galaxy wouldn’t wait for him to be ready.
