Chapter 1

Shoebills can grow up to 5 feet tall with an impressive 8-foot wingspan.

Their signature 9-inch clog-shaped bill features a razor-sharp hook at the tip used to decapitate and handle large prey.

They are stealthy ambush predators. They stand completely motionless for hours waiting for fish to surface. When striking, they execute a swift forward plunge known as a "collapse".

Their favorite snackl is lungfish, but they also eat catfish, water snakes, frogs, and even baby crocodiles.

Despite the name "shoebill stork," genetic research shows they are actually more closely related to pelicans and herons.

Shoebills are mostly silent but communicate by clapping their upper and lower bills together, creating a loud, hollow clattering sound that resembles a machine gun :3

They are fiercely independent and anti-social birds. They even forage on opposite sides of their territory from their mating pairs.

Ren: The storyline is great! The author has built a rich and compelling world, I really like the elemental powers and how those apply in combat. Sometimes there are situations where I wonder why the characters don't use their powers in more practical ways outside of combat, like why doesn't Ross use his ...
