Chapter 1: Loki Day
This is Berk—a small, remote island in the middle of nowhere. The weather is never perfect, and the people… even less so.
But it’s home, and the only upside?
Dragons!
Most normal Vikings have pets, like a dog or a yak, but Berk is special. We, over time, learned to live in harmony with dragons. Ever since we’ve helped each other.
But life is always getting crazier, which is why we have Loki Day. It’s a little bit of Hel in our life of chaos.
Most people stay indoors on Loki Day; I don’t blame them. The last thing you need when you wake up is to smell flaming underwear on your doorstep.
Loki Day is a day of tricks and pranks.
Only two people worship Loki devoutly enough to enjoy this.
The twins.
They are so devout that they used up all their brain cells coming up with tricks, and since then, they only have one left to share between them.
So anyway, I was just about to tell you what happened on a particular Loki Day…
It was early in the morning and Hiccup Haddock, Chief of Berk, woke to pounding on his door.
He rolled over towards the edge of his bed, groaning, “Toothless, not now!”
Another pound on his door sent him tumbling off the bed onto the floor.
“What in the name of Thor?”
Hiccup pulled himself up and opened the door.
“Chief! The Twins are at it again! They glued yak hair to me chickens and let em loose!”
He sighed, rubbing his temple.
“Not again!”
He looked up in exasperation.
“Thor, help us.”
Then he strode off to deal with the mutton brains launching sheep in catapults.
Meanwhile…
“Ahhh,” Loki sighed in glee.
“Loki Day. My favorite day.”
A thunderous crash sounded, and Thor, God of Thunder, strode in with an equally thunderous expression.
“Brother! Cease wreaking your havoc on my favorite island!”
Loki grinned.
“Oh, but I’m not the one causing it.”
Thor frowned in confusion.
“But it is your day. I thought for sure…”
Loki smirked.
“It’s just my devoted followers. I didn’t ASK them to do this.”
He rubbed his palms together.
“It’s out of my hands!”
Thor hummed in disbelief.
“I do not trust you, Loki.”
The God of Mischief smiled.
“Brother, have I EVER led you astray?”
Thor didn’t dignify that with an answer; instead, he stalked away.
